Good glimpse of the hotel being wedged onto the Ally site, they've got the cores going up pretty quickly. Watching them do the foundation was crazy, it's a mat foundation and must have been 8-10' deep. Rebar cage big enough for workers to be walking around inside it, plus the huge steel supports... and then they poured the whole thing over a weekend. Ally parking deck is pretty much done too. And a little glimpse of the site work on the new Duke tower.

Drive bys both sides of Ally Center at Tryon Place.  This afternoon.

I think they should reuse the original renderings someowhere else uptown. If all the architectural designs and specifics were complete, I say they use them elsewhere. I like them both but this would be great to use on the north end of uptown for another development. Sure it won’t happen lol but just a thought.

The old version of Tryon Place for Duke needs to go in the Unbuilt Charlotte thread for safe keeping and quick reference. I doubt that exact design will be built anywhere in Charlotte.

I actually really love the Regions building--it would make my top 5 (of high rises) in Charlotte easily.

I hope the only reason they fixed it was because someone working on these buildings actually comes to UP- and reads our endless complaining when something is not right lol.

Forgive me if this has been discussed recently, but are there plans for any sort of ornamental LED lighting (ie duke/legacy/barings)?  With the texture of this building, lighting could be pretty fun.

Ally Center is turning out better looking than LU1. I will concede to KJ, that LU1 looks pretty cool at night when the lighting is on.

First, it would need elevator lobbies on every floor of the deck and elevator shafts and they are not in the plans or the construction.

the Ally Center garage is a snapped together precast concrete thing and nothing can be built on top it.  It is one of those when you drive into and get out of your car you can get motion sickness walking in it.

Two observations:

1) Is it me or does the hotel have an impossibly small footprint?  It doesn’t seem like it’ll be more than one room wide, no?

2) I’ve noticed that the top floor of the Ally tower is taller than the rest... by a good 4-5 feet, I’d say.  The executives will have some nice high ceilings in the penthouse!
