I think they are about to set up a temporary helper crane to take down The hotels tower crane. There are a bunch of other parts laying on stonewall and a mobile crane already set up there. I was wondering how they were gonna get that one down since the building rose around it. [emoji848]

They are in fact setting up a helper tower crane to take down the construction crane from the hotel. This stuff fascinates me. THe base for the hotel crane is all the way down in the basement too. This section of stonewall a DPR guy told me will be shutdown until next Tuesday.

Or maybe they will just be using that giant yellow mobile crane and the parts I saw laying on the street will be attached to it with the smaller mobile crane...?

KJ has Zelle but there is no need to fundraise  but my camera is completely shot now the lens cover is not closing all the way.  I will buy something by the end of the month.  

However I will take all meal donations from various places like Superica, Noble Smoke, Midwood Smokehouse, any high end steak house etc.  LOL

I think that might not be the case...Usually when a crane is surrounded by the building it is a crane that grows up ward as the floors rise. The building basically becomes its base and support so the crane is much shorter than you'd think. This might be the type of crane that was used for JW  so the crane bottom of the crane may be at the top of the building.

I know what you are referring too as far as cranes rising with the building and resting on floors only a couple stories below the top. This crane base was all the way down in the basement of the building though. I had seen it as recent as a month ago and the DPR guy I was talking to when the mobile cranes were setting up said that’s how it was setup still.
I think on a small building like this it’s not a big deal to have it be set up this way. A Big mobile crane has enough reach.
Plus this is a post tension concrete formed building (which is pretty strong pretty quick) but, I’m not sure strong enough to support a crane and loads it’s moving and then loading floors with. I think the cranes in the middle of buildings that jack up and rest on floors are usually on steel framed buildings and much taller ones than this hotel.

from street level and from my perch today.   I love the brick storefronts on the Ally office tower for the retail spaces. is that jewel box going to be clad in glass or what?  the hotel is looking good. I give the project an A- because that parking deck with no retail or additional screening brings it down.   Can you tell I have not seen these sites up close in awhile?  and don't worry new camera coming early July!

Thank goodness for the front &  side facing the plaza...the views from the back with the parking deck look a little blah...but I love the glass facade in the front/side.

This is a gorgeous building.  With all of the great new buildings in Charlotte and Nashville, they are really duking it out to be the No. 2 city in the southeast after Atlanta.  Personally, I prefer them both to Atlanta since the traffic there is horrible.   I give the overall nod to the QC, but N'Ville is pretty awesome too.

They are vertical silver accents.
