I think that these buildings turned out pretty well.  Charlotte's skyline keeps filling out, and these add to it.  Having lived in Charlotte and the Triangle, I think that Uptown is so dramatically better than downtown Raleigh, which is really pretty lame in my opinion.  In fact, I think that Franklin Street is the second best thoroughfare in the state after Tryon Street.

Franklin Street reminds me a little of Telegraph in Berkeley, The Ave (University Way) in Seattle and State Street in Madison.

If we closed Tryon to car traffic, it would easily be the best thoroughfare in the state.

Not to bash any of your opinions, but can we keep this to Ally Center? Move the Franklin St talk to the Triangle forum. And let's not compare the downtowns of NC. Raleigh has it's own character, Charlotte is its own beast, and Chapel Hill similarly. Let's not put them down unless its constructive. 

 

Now, back to Ally Center -- I am really intrigued to see how the deck will turn out with this installation. It looks like it is going to be very gradient in terms of width. That could be interesting. And JWM is the best hotel building so far in Charlotte.

It already is the best urban  thoroughfare in the state.  I think that Queens Road is the best overall.

the JW Marriott hotel and the Ally Center building and garage (I wish they would have done Wanderwall Dos here)   Drive by walk by and from my perch today.   Overall I give this project an A minus and the minus is only due the deck and wasted opportunity for some ground level activation on College St side.

I’m hoping/assuming panels get dropped in between the frames seen now. If that not the case, I would not put anything past the scum of Crescent, then it’s worse then the top ‘screening’ and the box the sticks above it.

"The scum of Crescent" seems a tad hyperbolic. And I say this having been strung along by them for 4 months for a job that should have been mine, and not gettin it.

I'm sorry but no. I have a true hate for them and it starts with and at the top and filters down to all the minions that work their.  Ineptitude and celebration of mediocrity reigns supreme in what I'm sure is a toxic internal culture built on fear and inbreeding of only people who agree and never express a different point of view.

I am still pissed they didn't even try to stay with this awesome design. The tower we got is such a let down compared.

This project in my eyes is capable of having atherton mill type tenants. For a financial bank tower, the minimal lobby and 360 retail is a giant step forward. I would have loved a 7th St market type space in the parking deck or some sort of food hall but at this point in 2020...We should be fortunate something is under construction vs it still being a damn good year tire shop.
