That's probably a typo. Everything so far has said 70 stories and new tallest for the city.

whatever he builds (if it happens), I just hope both buildings don't look really guady or casino like. Nothing like a building that looks like a tall sore thumb that makes an awkward-looking skyline.

Not to worry. The buildings will be iconic as a pair but will also compliment and fit in beautifully with the S Tryon "look" stylistically including the new WB.

I know its probably not wise reawaken this topic without any fresh news or insider information, but I have been reading up on San Francisco's planned Transbay Transit center where they are building their citie's new tallest. Seeing the architects they have employed just to make a bid at the contract makes me hope trump's tower gets downsized (severely). The architects who created the cities iconic arte deco style with BofA and the Hearst are fending off against each other to create a 1000 ft+ masterpiece in San Fransisco. Our thousand footer (if its built) on the other hand will stand far from the focal point of our skyline, and will likely be another one of Donald's mediocrities. Even if you don't love art deco and hate the Hearst and BofA, I challenge any person to say trump will do better.

Actually, I'm not smitten by the Pelli design at all. I believe Trump could conceivably do better in Charlotte.

I agree, and no personal offense to you BobbyDav, Trump tower being downsized for the fact of how it would look on the skyline away from BofA HQ would be a true heart breaker. Where Trump is proposed is a major part of where the Skyline is shifting. You can't argue with change... South Tryon area is going to BE soon where people focus their skyline photos. Look at all of the large highrises that are going up down there, 300 S. Tryon, Novare, Wachovia (2 towers), One Charlotte... BofA Being the tallest was Charlotte 1990's-early 2000's with Hearst.... It's a changing time in this big city, I welcome Trump to set a new standard and allow us to have a new taste in our skyline. Plus with a capping of 277 and all the park areas proposed, and with the South End developments, I think a lot more people and a lot more cameras are going to be shifting down into the southern area of our Once centralized skyline. I welcome the change and look forward to Trump Towers and can't wait to hear any updates froma anyone.

I believe a tall tower on south Tryon would be nice. It would create "dual" focal points of sorts, what with BoA on north Tryon surrounded by shorter buildings and Trump tower on south Tryon with its own respective shorter buildings. There would be an interesting balance, but this is all assuming that Trump does build here. Which leads me to my question: the last rumor I heard was that Trump had hard money down on the land. I was wondering if there's anything new to be said?

All news have been leaks so far. All of it would be private otherwise. This is an unannounced project, so it is entirely consistent with that to still have quiet work to be done.

It is possible that this project is falling apart with the economic changes that are taking place, but a long quiet period has happened on Epicentre, Wachovia, BofA, Novare, and Furman projects that have since started construction. Just because news doesn't reach us, doesn't mean that work isn't being done.

You are a wise man Dubone.

Silence is golden in most cases, especially this one, as I am sure that TTO will want to announce in true TRUMP fashion when they are ready. My friend at Infinity tells me that not a day goes by that either Mr. Poag or Mr. Campbell are on the phone with New York preparing for the closing and continuing work on the master schedule. I would guess that sometime in October would be a good timeframe for some news.

Is Trump really the developer here or just lending his name to the project/another developer for a big fee ? He typically does this on projects outside of NY, Chicago and Vegas. It's my understandinghe charges $4-5 million for use of his name, marketing assistance and some input on the design. But it's also my understanding that in these type of deals he doesn't invest any money or take any responsibility for the construction loan.

Here is a link to one such deal that has been plagued with lots of problems getting started: http://www.trumptowertampa.com/home.html

Trump is also lending his name to Trump Tower Atlanta. This deal was supposed to start construction in April or May but I hear it was delayed due to slow sales and difficulty getting financing. It's my understand they have now scrapped the second tower and are currently evaluating the feasibility of making that a hotel.

Trump is developing this project. His licensing fee is also about 10X what you speculated.

Not according to a friend of mine familiar with the terms of the Atlanta deal. That licensing deal with Wood Partners is reported to be worth between $4 and $8 million. Whatever he charges for licensing one thing seems certain: if Trumps name and involvement don't make a quick sellout and easy debt more of a sure thing fewer developers will be willing to pony up this stout premium.

I've been hearing some scuttle over the lawyers' building recently, aparently not all is said and done. Without saying too much, it sounds like a contract to purchase the building was signed and then afterwards the Trump organization is trying to negotiate details about said contract. It goes a bit deeper than that, but basically this piece of land is still very much on the table. This could be one of the reasons why we haven't heard much in the way of progress on this site.

UPDATE:

Trump's SoHo project, casino woes in New Jersey, lawsuit in Tampa, problems in Scotland and Toronto have taken priority this summer but seem to be working themselves out and Charlotte appears to be getting back on their radar. A few issues remain to be settled. Enthusiasm is great but please be patient. Give it another 30-60 days, and then look for things to move fairly quickly, including a press conference / announcement and yes, renderings. It would be wise to assume that the entire project may be scaled back slightly due to the massive inventory coming online in CLT in the next three years in RES and COMM as well as RETAIL. Just slightly though....not enough to change the entire dynamic of what will still be a spectacular project.

This is gonna suck if we lose height.

Not necessarily-if rumors of the possibility of height increases pan out on the Wachovia building, we could still have a new tallest. And depending on how much Trump scales back, we could even have 2 new tallests. Wouldn't that be something!

This thread reminds me of the Bill Gates email that keeps circulating where Microsoft is doing Beta testing and you will get $1000 if the email is forwarded to enough people. Once a month somebody injects a little bit of life into the possibility of this project happening.

More than a few issues remain to be settled. If this happens, then the project will be scaled back significantly. Trump's people have played their typical run-around game and reached an impasse with several groups who's involvement and participation is central to this project.
