Amazing how fast this fell off the radar screen.

Are you referring to the lack of activity since the Wachovia Championship? This is a major project whether all goes well or not with it. We aren't going to hear everything immediately. This is going to be dragged for the next few years like every other project, if not longer given it's magnitude.

Trump has something to do with this, there are way too many legalities for some other company to take the project from there. The only exception is the mentionable projects where Trump sold his name. This was already confirmed that Trump Jr. would be involved with this project.

Plus, with the advancements in modern engineering it's bound to happen sometime in Charlotte's future. While BoA is a beautiful building, so were the Chrysler and Empire State. I think it is time Charlotte get another icon on its skyline. Whether or not that will be Trump remains to be seen. I do however love this design and would be more than happy if this were the new tallest.

Does anyone really think this is going to happen given in the next 4 years given the current state of uptown condo projects?

Well, never underestimate the abilities of developers to make big time mistakes. All one has to do is look at The Park and Epicenter/210 Trade for examples of that. However, in a practical sense, there is absolutely no need for high rise condos of this magnitude in Charlotte because there are no shortages of land. And, as noted in another topic on this forum, living in a building above 25 stories means some serious compromises in convenience and livability. Given that reality, and the fact that a lot of Charlotte's high rise projects seemed to have been based on an unrealistic and unsustainable real estate trend in the USA, I would say that it is very unlikely.

To put this in a different perspective, the greater Kanto region in Japan (includes Tokyo) has a population closing in on 50M people and encompasses every bit of land from the artificial islands in the harbor all the way to the mountains. Yet there are no residential towers such as this, with most people there preferring to live in much much smaller buildings.

Given the history of earthquakes in Japan, it's not so surprising people don't want to be so stacked up there.

Land intensive projects such as Beazer's Morehead fiasco don't have the same wow factor as a beautiful highrise, and Trump has a rep for wow projects. On one hand, the current mortgage woes and shrinking economy might delay this project longer. On the other hand, the delays or cancellations of some of the other uptown projects may make the Trump an easier sell. By the way, his project is for people who have plenty of financial assets, and just in the last day or so, I've read that the super rich are getting richer. I still have not given up on the Trumpster's Charlotte Adventure.

When and where was pricing of these units announced?

In regards to towers, I didn't say there weren't highrises in this region, there are plenty of them. The Landmark tower is taller than anything in Charlotte, but people there don't want to live in them because they are inconvenient, not as liveable, and as a result not as desirable. They also did some studies there that determined that children raised on the upper floors of buildings, on average, were less physically developed nor had the social skills of their lower floored peers. I have no opinion on that matter but they did make an attempt to study the issue over there.

Since no announcement of the project has been made, of course pricing hasn't been discussed.

I am only conjecturing that units in the Trump would be high quality, and you get what you pay for.

I doubt a large chunk will go as Section 8 housing. This would be a project where just the Trump name would increase the value, at least in many buyers' opinion.

It would be great if the units were to be competitively priced, relative to other uptown condos; I just am of the opinion that they would be a higher quality project, and priced to reflect that.

It's only my guess, and I have no insider knowledge to base it on.

Crescent Resources/Duke Energy owns the parcel. The architectural firm leaked the renderings. The economy is uncertain and projects that had already sold a decent percentage of their units are stalling out. You can interpret those together to mean that Trump will not be moving forward here. Federal funding for high speed rail development pretty much ended in 2001 when the Bush Administration took office.

Trump has such a surplus of empty/soon to be empty property in NYC that he won't be building anything in the next decade.

Actually, Trump doesnt even run Trump Casino (Which is the entity that filed bankruptcy), he stepped completely away from it. And to put it in perspective, this entity is equivalent to 1% of his net worth. Although Trump cant be perfect, he is a brilliant man. He will not be going away any time soon, so dont jump to conclusions.
