I am not sure if you can call Trump brilliant. He inherited his real estate business, he didn't create it. It is true that he benefitted from the real estate boom by building condos, but as the project here in Charlotte would prove, the plan wasn't based on any brilliant thinking. His other businesses have not been that successful as the Casino operation indicates, and that isn't the first time he has faced bankruptcy. In the early 90s his bad decisions cost a lot of people a lot of money.

Donald Trump did a phone interview on CNN yesterday evening. In his typical arrogant fashion, he tried to clear up the details about the bankruptcy of the casino's and he stated that it was only 1% of his wealth and blah blah blah. Anywho, he's been trying to get his name off the casinos for a little while now and he doesn't run it like the rest of his "empire" as he was just an investor. Also, fwiw, he said now is a great time to buy property if you have cash as he hasn't seen prices this low in years. He said he has plenty of cash (of course he would say that) and that he will be looking to buy up and invest into some more real estate again before prices increase again (take it for what it's worth).

if it's not dead, its in a vegetative state and will remain that way barring an act of god.

but it's sooo pretty.

At some point we're going to have to hear something on this though. I know it isn't going to happen within the next five years, or before 2020, but it still is a nice thought.

The website is still up so i don't think the project dead just yet.

The website is not real, its barely more than a gimmick for Little Diversified. Its a "hey look what we can do," fluff marketing/promotional piece at this point. I don't think the website will go away. This project might not be dead, but its highly unlikely in the next 20 years. Unless there is a major shift toward urban living in the south, this project is completely and utterly unrealistic. I'm quite disappointed in myself for believing it was possible in the first place.

It WAS possible.....had it been proposed 2 years earlier when commercial lenders had the spigots turned on full blast and everyone and their brother wanted to live downtown and buy an additional unit as an investment.

I still disagree, had it been proposed two years ago we'd have a 60 floor shell of a 74 story building sitting incomplete with all the copper, and premium fixtures looted, because the money ran dry, the bills stopped being paid and the contractors pulled out. In 2025 it would be declared a national landmark as a monument to the recession.

  • 4 months later...

Donald Trump was in Charlotte today (Sunday) as a guest speaker for the ACN International sales training event and according to him, he is still interested in building a combination commercial-residential in Charlotte. He said we should no more in the next few months. So, take that for whatever it is worth.....but it appears the deal ain't dead just yet..... :whistling:

I had heard that He was in town. I heard that he was gonna be in town for 3 days. Did someone ask him if he was still interested in the city? I am sure that he is still wanting to build something here. Charlotte will have more banks and companies here than before the economy tanked.

So Im curious what cities in the south have trump projects. I know his name is huge. Would having a development with his name be that big of a deal for Charlotte. The biggest plus I can think of is that uptown would get more retail, especially high profile retail. We already have lots of condos and plenty of people willing to build more when the market adjusts itself. Any thoughts?

I just heard the Trump interview on Fox News seconds ago. Trump said (exact quote) "I am looking at buying something very interesting and if it happens, over the next few months"....

OK, makes me wonder now if he is talking about buying an existing tower, the Bobcats?? :dontknow:

But we will know within the next 2 months so he says.

I don't think it's the Bobcats, because according to Fox News, as well, Michael Jordan is trying to put together a small group where he would be the majority owner. My bet is on either the Park, or more likely knowing Trump and how he likes to do things big, and upscale 210 Trade. But that is just speculation on my part.

Well mentioning that he didn't think building would be a good investment at the moment, that pretty much rules out 210, 300, or Wachondo. The park is a possibility if say he could win the auction at a good price. I feel like the Park would actually be a little more feasible if it had a name to constitute pricing the condos higher. People will blindly pay for perceived luxury. However, this wouldn't coincide with his quoted "commercial-residential venture," so I have my doubts.

Renaming a lesser condo building (230 S Tryon, the Trust, etc) also wouldn't seem fitting for Trump; then again, he could always be attempting to change his investment style (although highly unlikely.)

Purchasing the Vue seems the most fitting to me. Change the name and jack up the prices and HOA's on remaining units.
