Developer eyes hotel

Interesting that the developer is thinking about putting a hotel in. Does DT Ann Arbor need it?

I've been in sporadic contact with the developer as part of my research, and he has informed me in every contact that the project is still moving forward.

I'm confused, though, wouldn't condos make him more money in the short-term? Wouldn't a hotel take longer for him to get back his money on since they are far more costly to operate? Maybe, I've got it completely backwards. He obviously knows more than I about business doings, but it just seems a little odd to me that he's considereing this as an option.

The Campus Inn is the only major hotel downtown, although there are several smaller inns.

AA definitely doesn't need another downtown hotel. The one near the courthouse failed.

Of course, weekends in the fall, you can't find a vacancy to save your life. But I guess being desperate for hotel rooms during the football season does not mean A2 needs them the rest of the year...

It sure doesn't. That said, I don't doubt they could make a small boutique/specialized hotel work on a few floors of one of these towers.
