Per an article today in the Post and Courier,  plans are underway to add 3 temporary boarding gates this summer at the end of Concourse A.

A couple of notes on CHS:

• CHS is on pace to pass the 5M passenger count for 2022
• the three new temporary gates will be installed by August.  At least one gate is now operational (gate A2A)

Charleston airport officials announced yesterday a 20 year expansion plan for CHS.

The expansion includes two new concourses, one on each side of the existing terminal building, a new parking garage, and a new surface parking.  The expansion will net 11 new gates.

The article states the airport services 2.6M passengers annually but I believe the airport is on track for 5.1M this year.

This update is a month old but CHS has added 2 gates (A6 & A7) in Concourse A.  I was under the impression these would be temporary gates as noted above but it looks to be permanent.  

Gate A2A was opened in July.

CHS' final 2022 passenger count was 5.32M.   Airport officials are hoping to hit 6M by EOY 2023.

The SC Joint Bond Review voted to provide an additional $22M toward the projected $144M cost to build a new CHS access road.  Construction could begin mid-2024.

The new road will provide direct access to CHS from I-526 separating airport and commuter traffic from Boeing's campus.  The entry way to CHS from Internal Boulevard will be eliminated.
