Cricket Arena to be renamed

News 14 is reporting that Cricket Wireless' naming rights will end soon to the eponymous arena, and they report the non-profit Victory Junction Gang Camp is most likely going to gain naming rights since no one else has come forward to do so for the arena formerly known as Independence Arena and the original Charlotte Coliseum.

Yikes. I like that a non-profit is getting exposure, but that name makes it sound like an evangelical headquarters.

I really hope this isn't a further sign of abandonment for the old arena. It's one of Charlotte's least-appreciated jewels and could use a bit of support.

This has entered my mind before and was wondering if it's been discussed before, would Cricket ever consider grabbing the naming rights to the Charlotte Bobcats Arena and rename it New Cricket Arena, Cricket Center, or something else similar? (would be kinda confusing renaming it Cricket Arena so it would need to be a dif name)

im actually surprise no company is seeking to purchase the naming rights of the uptown arena. we are going on year 2 since the arena opened its doors.

A company was hired in mid-2006 to do a study and get a company to purchase naming rights. I believe they said they would have a company lined up somewhere in 2008.
