From the KCCI eMail:

GGG Team: I see from the Democrat article below that some of you might be on this trip to Chattanooga to learn from its downtown revitalization efforts. It would have been great if Ferdie had referenced KCCI's efforts to "Get Gaines Going" and let readers know that members of this initiative team were going on this trip. I plan to send him an e-mail today to see if he can tie some of this to what KCCI is doing to get our initiative back in print.

In the meantime, if those of you who are on the trip receive this, please don't hesitate to catch up with Ferdie, who is on the trip as well, and just reintroduce yourself and chat with him about KCCI and Get Gaines Going's involvement in downtown/Gaines Street revitalization.

Final KCCI Full Team Meeting

finalteammeetingbannermx5.jpg

The meeting began with an update from Stacy Getz on behalf of Mike Pate who was unable to make tonights meeting. He had kind words to say about the work everyone has done thus far on the initative and has called it a success in his eyes. His objective, according to Stacey was, "To do what we can to move Tallahassee forward and to make Tallahassee more appealing to the creative class". The concensus is that we're definately moving in the right direction.

The Tallahassee Film Festival

The organization of the Tallahassee film festival is by far the crown jewel of the KCCI{sodEmoji.{sodEmoji.|}}Tallahassee process. Many of these group members need to be singled out for their efforts and TRUE dedication to the cause over the past year. Thanks to their work, Tallahassee will host its first film festival this May, an event that will cost upward of $125,000.00 -- money that has already been raised not including dollars that have come in from the more than 150 SUBMISSIONS from ALL COUNTRIES AROUND THE WORLD!!!! The dates of the event are May 15 - May 17. More details will come. I'm more than confident that most of you will find this event something that you will want to attend!

Get Gaines Going

The Get Gaines Going update was rather interesting. We learned some interesting things about the work this committee had to do in overcoming what was said to be "challenges" of their efforts from the City. It was said during the meeting that an effort conducted by our very own Poonther and Josefk to identify and address specific code violations along Gaines Street were met with very sharp and threatning responses from the City Manager's office. I'm sure our UrbanPlanet memebers involved will be happy to shine some light on this in the future for us. Meanwhile, we're happy to report, the Gaines Street Vitalization Committee has been restaffed and an implementation timeline has been released to the group, which is seen as a major accomplishment in our eyes. Thanks to this effort, we also have a major Arts garden project coming together at All Saints Square, and a fundrasing effort underway on behalf of the FSU Master Craftsman Workshop.

Greenovation

What have they not done in helping Tallahassee catch the front end of the national surge to Go Green? They've made strong partnerships with the City's StarMetro department in launching park & ride efforts, encouraged local businesses to go green, and are staunch supporters of recycling efforts throughout the community - especially our Local Schools. The group members are believed to be spinning off into the Sustainable Tallahassee effort already underway. The work done by this group has effected every other KCCI initative in a very unique way. Greenovation efforts have taken a grip on our local University campuses! Tonight we learned that students at Florida State Univeristy have elected to "tax" themselves $.50 per credit hour to contribute to a "Go-Green" fund! Excellent work!
