Finally, an objective report showing some surprising economic stats for Michigan, as well as the horrible stats we are pounded over the head with every day in our local media:

A new study that tracks how states are preparing for the knowledge-based economy of the future reported Tuesday that Michigan has made more progress since 1999 than any other state.

The good:

1. Michigan ranked first in the nation in this e-government category, which measure the progress of getting government functions online.

2. Michigan ranked fourth in industry investment in research and development, 10th in foreign direct investment in the state, and 11th in managerial, professional and technical jobs.

The bad:

3. The state ranked 40th in entrepreneurial activity, 30th in new stock offerings and 32nd in the use of technology in schools
