History of Greensboro Grocery Stores

I remember the old Bestway stores. There is still a Bestway store open in an urban neighborhood west of downtown. The neighborhood is almost like its own town. It has a little area like a mini-downtown with a neighborhhod bar and the Bestway store. I forget the name of the neighborhood.

Hi cityboi-

That Bestway is in my old stomping ground, in sunset hills. My parents live only four blocks from it. We used to go to it for odds 'n ends all the time when I was a kid. The only reason I believe it is still in business is because of the beer it sells to college kids that frequent the bars next to it.

Bestway is a cool little store for the UNCG neighborhood, a rarity indeed.

UP user otherstream is the webmaster of Groceteria. He'd be flattered you guys enjoyed his research, I'm sure.

Kroger was the victim of an oversaturated market in the Triad, like suburban george3 wa saying. They had just rebuilt most of their store base in the area when Harris Teeter offeres to swap some stores in Virginia for the Triad locations. Kroger got the better end of the deal. Most of the HTs in Virgina Kroger aquired are still open, while only a handful of the old Triad Krogers still operate as HT.
