Kannapolis, NC

I took a stroll through downtown Kannapolis, NC yesterday and snapped a few photos of this old textile town. Downtown was built around textile mills, as was much of the mill homes surrounding downtown. Today the textile mills have been leveled to make way for the creation of the North Carolina Biotech Research Campus. Unfortunately at this point the old textile mills have been completely leveled and preperation is either underway or completed for various stages of the master biotech campus plan. Some buildings are already up and nearing completion. This thread focuses not on the construction of the new campus (for that click the link above) but of the downtown area consisting of shops, theater, etc.

Gem Theater is an old school theater still in use. You won't find stadium seating here!
