Comerica Leaving Detroit

This could have happened to any company anywhere in this state given the ridiculous explanation of the CEO:

Sounds to me what it boils down to is something ridiculous as simply wanting to be in a warmer climate, because the rest of the explanations aren't enough (IMO) to justify this move, and especially blind-siding Detroit and the state just hours before their announcement. It shows you what kind of corporate neighbor they are. It sounds like your typical "Grass is Greener on the Other Side" ideology that plagues every last inch of this state. They didn't give the region a chance to even court them, so, it's definitely not for lack of trying by either the city or state, and this idea that it's a recruitment issue is also pretty ridiculous. If that's the case we'd have never seen the huge Compuware, EDS,...moves to a much improved and still improving inner-city Detroit.

You guys should check the Free Press and Detroit News.

with all this doom and gloom talk going on about Michigan and it's core cities, which I love. Is there anything at all positive any one of you has to say, instead of talking about how awful it is, does anyone, even if it's a pie in the sky type of theory, have any solutions to said problem? Sure the situation sucks, and we are all accomplishing a great deal by sitting around and moaning about just how much it does suck.

I've been monitoring the bastion of Detroit boosterism, the famed "detroit yes.com" website and came away with a few thoughts:

While being devoted to one's city and way of life is for the most part an admirable trait, it's a very dangerous thing when it becomes "canine loyalty", to simply react with a pavlovian response, not by judgement, reason or consequence but clouded by the blindness of the allegiance to the familiar and comfortable dispite what actual circumstances dicate.

They are the people who have reveled in booing Toyota's sponsorship promotion of one of thier products during Red Wing's games, fail to participate, monitor and hold thier elected representatives accountable until difficult events happen, and yes, are the first to hurl indignation, calls for boycotts and protest for some perceived injustice. There's a reason that in any failed relationship lashing out at the other is perhaps the most unhealthy thing one can do, if for no other reason than the next boss, business, or girlfriend will have little interest in joining the ranks of the scorned.

The fault, dear Brutus, lies not in our stars but in ourselves...
