Ozark Downtown are going to do redeveloping the old downtown, to improve the quality of life.

It's a vision that has taken years to plan and mountains of opposition to scale. But Ozark's downtown is on the cusp of a building trend that is turning the corner on urban sprawl in many other cities across the nation: New urbanism.

The Ozark Park Board on Monday awarded a 12.17 million bid to a Neosho company to build a recreational center off of Missouri 14.

The unanimous vote awarded the bid to Branco Enterprises to build the center on a 60-acre tract of land east of U.S. 65.

The center will feature an indoor aquatic center, two gyms and a fitness center.

Groundbreaking is slated for March 27. The center is being paid for by a sales tax approved by voters in August.
