Tesla drivers can now get a charge at Acadian Village Shopping Center

Tesla Motors’ so-called supercharger station for its electric vehicles at the Acadian Village Shopping Center on Perkins Road began operation on Thursday, further closing the gap in the company’s electric vehicle charging stations between Texas and Florida along Interstate 10.

The Acadian Village station is the second supercharger in Louisiana. A Lake Charles station opened several weeks ago.

“We open superchargers in areas where our owners would want to stop anyway on a roadtrip,” Tesla spokesperson Alexis Georgeson says, adding the company looks for areas where there are attractions and a wide selection of restaurants.

A full charge will carry one of the Palo Alto, California-based company’s electric cars over 250 miles, but Tesla has strived to place a station every 160 miles, according to Georgeson. That’s because it takes about an hour to fully recharge a Tesla, whereas a recharge at every 160 miles only takes about 20 minutes,
