We knew from a Census Bureau report released in April that the Columbia MSA led the state in population growth from 2000 to 2006, but a report released by the Bureau today shows that from July 1, 2005 to July 1, 2006, the Columbia MSA led the state in that period of time as well.

SC's top three MSAs' growth from 7/1/05 to 7/1/06:

Columbia - 12,812

Greenville - 11,364

Charleston - 11,149

In the Columbia MSA, Calhoun and Fairfield counties lost population. In the Charleston MSA, Dorchester out-grew Charleston and Berkeley counties significantly, primarily because of better schools and housing affordability.
