Lunch and Learns

67 posts in this topic

To capitalize on the success of the three Lunch-n-Learns at the Ice House, the Fitzgerald, and Clearwater Place (Monroe Filtration Plant), we would like someone (or a small group) who would like to volunteer to set one of these up regularly (maybe monthly or quarterly?). Not you Veloise.

You would be responsible for:

- Contacting commercial realtors, property owners, construction companies, and/or developers to set up tours of different structures in GR

- It would not have to be reserved for renovation projects, it could be anything you think people would be interested in (historic theaters, homes, churches, buildings, factories, etc.).

- It could be one of the new condo projects

- It could be one of the new medical facilities under construction

- It could be a sneak peak at the new hotel

- It doesn't have to include lunch

- It's generally great exposure for property owners and developers, and a great learning experience for us.

In addition to the ones that have been given so far, here is an example of one being done for the Providence section of UP:

We would like someone to volunteer to spear-head this.

Thanks

Why do you need someone to do this?

Sorry, that's just the way I talk. We would love for someone to do this. :D No one is requiring anything. Better? Are you throwing your hat in the ring Mike?

GRGridGirl has volunteered to take this on, since she has already started doing something similar for a meetup group in Grand Rapids. She will post the events both at their site and here as one single event.

If you have ideas or places you would like to tour, post them here.

Some places that I think would be cool to get informational tours of:

- Fountain Street Church

- Van Andel Institute

- River House once it tops out

- Many of the buildings in the Heartside District

- St Cecelia

- The new Marriott before it opens

- Union Square once it's substantially completed

- A sneak peak of the art museum before it opens to the public

Of course all of these might not be feasible, but it can't hurt to ask.

I doubt we can get in VAI. I think they're pretty selective in who they let visit. I've been told security is part of the reason for the "concrete bunker look" for the ground floor.

Reminder to send me your RSVP for the Lunch & Learn on Thursday, May 3rd at 12pm.

To keep this event on the street...lunch will be provided by Sandmann's, with beverages from Art of the Table. Thank you!

Oh, please let me know on your RSVP if you're vegetarian.

Yesterday I splashed past GRAM and teased a worker. "Ya done yet? Are you open?" He said bring a hard hat and I can take a tour. (Dang, I forgot to check his left hand!)

Rachel, this might be worth exploring further.
