Many of you might already be familiar with his work, but I highly recommend Donald Harington, a native son of Arkansas and one of the best writers in America. Most of his books take place in Arkansas, usually centering around Newton County in the Ozarks.

Here's his "official" website: http://www.donaldharington.com

Harington is an art professor at the UofA. He enjoys talking with fans, although be warned that he is deaf so you might have to communicate through notecards if he can't read your lips.

Also, be advised that he writes novels of "magical realism." So, if you're a fan of Nabokov or Marques, you'll like Harington. His admiration of Nabokov and Marques is very evident in his earlier works.

Of particular interest to this forum, check out Let Us Build Us a City. It's about lost towns in Arkansas and blends fiction with nonfiction. It's a fascinating read.
