Grant to Make Wheeling More Walkable

Key --

1. Wheeling received a $480,000 Transportation Enhancement Grant after applying for it on Jan. 15.

1a. The funding would be used for phase one of eight phases to create a network of trails throughout the city.

2. "Since 1988, the city has contributed more than $570,000 in matching funds to have rails removed and to pave over 11 miles of abandoned railway."

3. There will be 11 loops that will use 3 abandoned tunnels.

4. The first phase will convert 1.46 miles of abandoned railway into a paved path.
