Where did the article imply that NIMBY's were to blame here? Looks like it was because of a lack of information concerning the proposed company.

the planning board was also concerned because nearby neighbors were opposing the re-zoning.

I wouldn't get too excited about Herbalife. They're finally starting to be exposed as a huge pyramid scheme, which is what the company really is, and their stock prices are falling fast. I was an IBO with Herbalife for several years. I watched numerous IBO's deplete their retirement accounts and go into bankruptcy from taking out loans, after being pressured to do so from their up-line,  to front load products and try out the newest marketing scheme that never resulted in the sales gains they promised. Sponsors pressured the IBO's they signed up to buy huge quantities of product up front so the sponsors checks would be bigger. They have some good products, but their business model is very shady, and their sales figures are inflated because of all the front loading of product.

On a brighter note, the VW assembly plant would be a big score.

Insteatd of luring them the Triad would be wise to run Herbalife, and all of these other pyramid type businesses, out of town as quickly as possible. I recall that Amway used to operate heavily in the area. The congregation of these types of companies will likely cause other more substantial companies to reconsider locating there.

I know sometimes it's hard to distinguish between a pyramid scheme and a legit multi-level market company like Greensboro based Market America. A clear pyramid scheme is a so called company who pays people to recruit others when there is no product. But some "companies" have products and have still been shut down by the government because it was determined they were pyramid scheme. Sometimes a product can be used as a disguise. There was a so call telecommunications scheme going around the Triad 10 years ago where products were being sold but the focus was about making money. The owner ended up going to prison. In the case of Herbalife, there definitely is a debate going on whether or not it is a pyramid scheme.

This article came out a few days ago. The feds could shut this company down because Herbalife is paying its sales staff far more money to recruit new distributors than to actually sell its products. The country of Belgium recently ruled Herbalife as an illegal pyramid scheme.

Piedmont Triad International Airport and DOT officials seek to accelerate road projects to attract industry. This comes after two unnamed airframe manufacturers passed on setting up operations at PTI because of a lack of available land and runway access. PTI has become a hot bed for aviation related industries. Honda Aircraft Company has its world headquarters and a jet factory at PTI.

Part of the project includes a airplane taxiway that will cross over a future segment of I-73 in Greensboro. Commuters along I-73 will see big airplanes crossing over the interstate. This is similar to Atlanta where one of Hartsfield-Jackson's runways run over I-285. So this will be a unique project for North Carolina.

If anyone had Belk moving to a still un(der)developed area at US 311/Old Plank Rd/N. Main, I have bad news for them: http://www.hpe.com/news/business/x145784100/Belk-to-leave-mall-for-north-High-Point#.UVMPSLFKeFQ.facebook

Now, I'm not surprised that Belk is leaving the mall, but I am surprised that it's choosing the Palladium since it's already prospering without any retail stores.

Gerbing's Heated Clothing, which is a supplier for Harley Davidson plans to move to Greensboro. The company is looking for 6,000 square feet in downtown Greensboro and a building across from the civil rights museum is being eyed. This comes on the heels of another company which announced its constructing a corporate headquarters in downtown Greensboro.

The tech apparel company was founded in Tacoma, Washington in the 1970s and moved to Stoneville, NC two years ago. Now the company needs more space and if it choses a building in downtown Greensboro to renovate for its headquarters, it could include a retail store for its clothing products.

I believe this is the building Gerbing's is considering. Its located at the corner of South Elm Street and February One Place across from the International Civil Rights Museum. It would be perfect for a clothing store on the first floor with corporate offices on the upper floors. The five story Myers Building was built in 1924.

Southern Business Development Magazine says the Piedmont Triad has the best chance for a new automobile plant in the South.

“The Greensboro, N.C. region — really the entire Piedmont Triad region — is our No. 1 spot in the Southern Auto Corridor that we believe can support a new assembly plant based on labor availability and quality, its location and its history of just missing with the Big Kahunas,"

“Even though there are no rumors to base our pick, we believe that one of the next two automakers announcing greenfield plants in the Southern Auto Corridor will pick a site in the Piedmont Triad region of North Carolina,"

It will all come down to incentives. Historically, NC has been smart and has made sure the ROI is worth the incentives given, while other states like SC and AL will sell their firstborn for a big manufacturing outfit with cost/benefit analyses playing less of a role in the decision-making process.

The apparel company will be relocating its corporate headquarters in the historic building above on South Elm St in Downtown Greensboro. The company now owns brands such as Duck Head. I remember wearing Duck Head pants in the 1980s.

city leaders trying to lure Boeing Airplane assembly plant to Greensboro. Would be great to land this on the heels of Honda Aircraft Company which has its world headquarters and a jet assembly plant in Greensboro at PTI. The city's aviation cluster, the FedEx hub and its location at I-40, I-85, and I-73/74 should make Greensboro stand out. Boeing said its looking for an airport area with good road and rail access. Greensboro ranks better than average in that department. In addition, Greensboro also has an aviation school (GTCC) near the airport that would train a future workforce. If Greensboro were to land the plant, it could be as large as 4 million sq ft and cost as much as $10 billion, probably the most expensive project in Greensboro's history. The plant could eventually employ more than 8,000 people. It would be a game changer for Greensboro. Local and state officials are speeding up the airplane taxiway bridge project over I-73 which will open the airport up to hundreds of acres of land for a manufacturer like Boeing. In North Carolina Boeing is looking at three site (Greensboro, Charlotte and the Global Transpark in Kinston) In terms of infrastructure, Greensboro has the edge in North Carolina along with its location between Charlotte and the Triangle. These were big reasons FedEx chose Greensboro for its Mid-Atlantic Air Cargo Hub. There are some hurdles to overcome though. First of all The Charleston, SC area already has a Boeing plant and the company could decide to just expand the operation there. Secondly, North Carolina would be in a bidding war with multiple states and with a republican controlled general assembly, can North Carolina be a competitive state in regards to incentives?
