Rebuilding of the Century Club

rightseat

Recommended Posts

Work is in progress in downtown Muskegon on the Century Club. Life is being brought back into the Century Club where Charles Hackley once walked the hallways and most likely sat in the library for meetings with his associates.

Hegg's Furniture from Hart, Michigan are excitingly waiting for their opening sometime in late June this summer.

Muskegon is coming back to life and now is the time for everyone to come and visit the progress that is being made. Some of these visits can be made right here. Let me know what you think of this exciting time for Muskegon.

Thanks for the photos. Everyday I go by there and think, "Wow, we are lucky so be keeping a bit of Muskegon's history at this spot". Hats off to Gary Post and Russ Strong on this project. There really couldn't be a better project to kick off redevelopment on the mall site.

Eridony... I enjoy photography and my friends have helped me to 'get in' where I need too for the photos. The photos I have reduced to fit here on urbanplanet, I don't know if you can get a larger view at frickr or not. Thanks for your response and I will try to keep the pictures coming.

This is the third time I am trying get save these prints to share with everyone. Once more...

The following pictures are of the second floor area. Many changes are being made on a daily basis, but mostly internally. Many of the floor areas are now repaired and being sanded. Opening day is still on for the end of June. It will be a must for everyone to come and visit and see what the changes are and to see some great furniture and other fixtures

Right side of picture is the old second floor bar area with fire place showing and to the left other side of brown wall is the old men and women bathroom

They have been working on it for a few weeks. The interior has been gutted out. The original plaster ceiling appears to be largely intact, including the paint. My understanding is they (Gary Post and Russ Strong) intend to restore the facade like they did on the Century Club. If they do half the job they did there, the bank should be a real showpiece.

Next week Hegg's furniture should be open for business. One of the major holdups is getting consumers energy to come and hook up the power, they are very independent and you dance to their tune. Very big job to get everyone to come together at one time.

I think that this front room is where the library was at one time, been restored just beautifully.

Facade with Hegg's name on the front, a better picture will come after the lift in front is moved

I will get a facade picture in the morning with the sunlight from the east. It will brighten the building nicely.

This has been a wonderful project and will benefit Muskegon for many years to come. With a little foresight and imagination, Muskegon will continue to grow bringing with it many new businesses. Knowing when to jump in while the blue light is spinning is for the ones with knowledge of what can become in downtown Muskegon. Living in the downtown area and watching it grow is fulfilling my dream.

Remember... don't wait to long... it'll just cost you more in the future...
