Midtown Atlanta District Developments

12th & Midtown is moving forward as today GA power is removing street lights etc and dismantling of the billboard on the site is scheduled for July 9. The hotel component in this phase is rumored to be a Loews.

As for the Mandarin rumor the most likely theories IMO is that they would go into a condo/hotel/office project such as Novare's 14th street proposal or a redesigned third Phase of 12th & Midtown. It's also possible that they'll wind up sticking with the 1138 Peachtree proposal. The only thing for sure is that, until they sign a deal, Mandarin is free agent with several options.

From this weeks Business Chronicle....

-Two Peachtree Point has signed INVESCO as an anchor tenant taking 125,000 sf. Dewberry is currently adding 40,000 sf of retail to the building after the fact in order to better compete with the amenities offered in other areas of Midtown. Its sort of like the Midtown Mile is having an impact here before it even exists.

-Tivoli announced that they have signed a "world reknowned five-star hotel operator" for the 1138 Peachtree project.

Tivoli wouldn't comment on the Mandarin and the Mandarin people had no comment either but who else could it be?

The Atlanta forums will probably spend more time talking about the Trump thing but this is a big deal. The Mandarin is a more prestigious, top of the line brand. I just hope the rendering we've seen is not the final design because I'm one of the few thats not in love with it.

Well actually, the Atlanta forums have been more into the Mandarin than anything else. The Mandarin would be much better than Trump. There are rumors of them building else where intown as well (not the Midtown location).

London architect to design Wieland condo tower

Home builder John Wieland wants to make an architectural statement in Atlanta with his signature residence, One Museum Place.

The 23-story, $325 million luxury condominium tower will be a modernist design by London architect David Chipperfield.

The condo tower, at 1301 Peachtree St., across from the High Museum of Art, will have 96 units that begin at $2 million. Construction is scheduled to begin Sept. 5 and the project is expected to be completed in fall 2009.

Business Chronicle is reporting that Selig and Daniel Corp. are starting construction on a 34-story, 725,000 square-foot office tower at 1075 Peachtree (11th, P'tree, 12th, Juniper). This is the start of phase 2 of 12th & Midtown. The building will include 40,000 sq. feet of Midtown Mile retail space, and is the largest office building in terms of square footage built in Midtown since 1991.
