Sheraton Renovation

It's been ages since I have stayed there, but the Sheraton Waterside is aggressively average. Years ago, when it was the Omni International, it was operated as a better hotel. I do think the Sheraton people have insisted on room renovations and so on, but the hotel still seems like a leftover from the '70s. It has survived because of its location. I'd also love to see them do something with the exterior, but this isn't likely.

Having lived in the San Francisco area, I became converted to the idea that your tallest buildings should be stepped back from the waterfront, not right on it (like the so-called Dominion Tower). I'd love to see a better facade on the Sheraton, but I like it's general shape. It is long and narrow like a cruise ship, sitting along-side the harbor.

I have stayed there quite frequently over the years and I love the location. The place does need updating though. The rooms have a slight odor of mold or mildew or something. I hope whatever they do to the building really adds character to the Downtown Waterfront.

I'm not being negative. I think the room renovations etc. will be helpful. From reading the article, however, I would guess that their plans for the exterior aren't extensive. It would be great to see them do something to make the building more interesting, but I see this as merely an interior freshening, so to speak.

I hate to beat a dead horse to death, but this renovation provides a good opportunity for an updated fountain. Something striking would serve as an icon as you come into downtown from the east. And change the tinting of the overhead walkway to something more colorful and unique.
