Jobless rate drops significantly

Spartan

Recommended Posts

The HJ reports that the unemployment rate in Spartanburg has dropped for the 4th consecutaive month. We're down to 5.8% from 6.6% in Februrary. We're still above the national average of 4.4%.

A lot can be attributed to EchoStar's addition of 1500 jobs to the area as well as other smaller businesses. I don't the Adidas Center has had a chance to hire anyone yet, but that will certainly put a dent in the numbers over the next year or so.

Its also worthy to mention Union County, which has seen incredibly high unemployment. It dropped from 11% in February to 9.1 in March. Thats still high, but definitely better than it was.
