Seattle area: Pizza Hut.

No joke. Pizza in Seattle restaurants is just as lackluster as other cuisines in Seattle retaurants. If you want a good hambuger in Seattle, go to Wendy's. If you want a good steak, go to Outback or Ruth's Chris. Unless you can spend $100 for each person by going to what few good restaurants there are in Seattle, stick to the chains.

In "regular" restaurants you usually have to ask for silverware---again no joke.

This is a thread about pizza, but I'll go ahead and say this: with a few exceptions, restaurant experiences in Seattle are all about how much you can spend. If you have $50 to spend on a dinner for two, I would STRONGLY reccommend a chain. Chains properly train people. Chains train chefs. Excluding chains, in Seattle "casual service" is taken to a level of absdurdity---customers have to ask for everything: silverware, refills, dessert.......

There is a local pizza chain that everyone in Seattle raves about: Pagliacci's. They rave about it because they have probably never had a good pizza. When you open a Pagliacci pizza box, the toppings are piled about three inches above the crust, and the crust itself is soaking wet.

So much for a good pizza in Seattle. When in Seattle, call Pizza Hut delivery if you want a nice pizza.

Generally speaking, restaurants in Jacksonville and Charlotte (other cities I've lived) are like Parisian restaurants in comparison to Seattle's. The seafood here isn't as good as in Jax, I don't think. The most popular seafood haunt here is Ivar's. No hushpuppies though....and very expensive for what you get.

The Asian restaurants in Seattle are wonderful though. For one thing ethnic peoples work in them, so you don't have to ask for silverware.

a sidenote: Seattle has a major labor shortage going on. There are fabulous paying jobs, so smart people don't have to work in restaurants. That leaves restaurant work for undecucated, untrained folks who are the only ones that will work for $10-12 an hour. And the restaurants are always short handed and under staffed (except for the chains, again)

Well, considering that I live in a very small city (30,000), the choices aren't that great. For deep dish pizza, Green Mill is probably best (I know.. I hate mentioning a chain, but Green Mill does have excellent pizza.) For regular pizza, it would be Dave's Pizza or Keith's Pizza. Both use the same recipe and the pizza is quite delicious. Their Italian combo (pepperoni, italian sausage, onions, spices) is amazing.

Also, Keith's pizza owner Pete Fenson (he recently bought Keith's Pizza) was the skipper for the U.S Men's olympic curling team in 2006. He offended some Italians when they asked him whether he preferred their pizza over his, and he answered that he liked his pizza better.

I have had pizza in Italy and I wasn't really impressed. The crust was really thin and flimsy and the toppings were generally scarce with the unforgettable taste of canned mushrooms.

my favorite pizzas are both in new haven, CT. modern apizza and sally's apizza. nothing beats a clams casino pie from modern. in providence, i haven't had any that come close. the closest was fellini's, but it's a bit greasier, really expensive (about $18 and they only have 1 size), and it's whole wheat dough. others i've had here that are also good... la salle pizza. caserta's (which is very different), and tommy's.
