Your own Supergroup

So, here's the premise, you can create your own super-group. Dead or Alive, what singer do you have, guitarists, bass, drums, etc. You can even create 2 bands if you want.

Here's mine:

Singer: - Chris Cornell - Sound Garden/Temple of the Dog/AudioSlave

Lead Guitar: - Jimi Hendrix - Jimi Hendrix Experience

Guitar: - Hillel Slovak - Red Hot Chili Peppers

Bass Guitar: - Geezer Butler - Black Sabbath

Drums: - Steve Perkins - Jane's Addiction/Porno For Pyro

So, Chris Cornell just has an absolutely classic voice. He can sing, scream, hit high and low notes, and just does an unbelievable job. Jimi Hendrix is self-explanatory. Hillel Slovak had a really unique style, and he was a huge Hendrix fan, and would mesh really well with Hendrix without being lost. Geezer Butler to me is the prototypical heavy bass player. He can keep up with any guitarist, and is just plain heavy. The hardest decision was drummer. I chose Steve Perkins because he has an interesting tribal-type style that could be great with the guys I chose. I almost took Lars Ulrich, but wasn't sure his style would have gone well. Steve Perkins could be real good with Hendrix and Hillel with his funky style.

Who are your picks?

Agreed on the Metallica angle, though I would say to pick up Kirk Hammett.

Rounding out would be Flea of RHCP at Bass, additional guitarist in Stevie Ray Vaughn or Carlos Santana, depending on the mood of the day, and at drums Ian Paice or Jon Bonham. And throw in Bruce Hornsby at piano.

That team of guys would either torture anyone or be able to come up with an incredibly unique and powerful new sound. As far as lead singer, I couldn

Hmmm....tough choices

Drums would have to be Danny Carey of Tool & Green Jelly

Vocals would be Layne Staley of Alice in Chains

Bass would be Les Claypool of Primus (if he contain himself and not try to steal the show)

Lead Guitar would be Slash of G&R and Velvet Revolver

Rythem Guitar would be Carlos Santana

For select songs they would have special appearances by:

Paino - Billy Joel

Fiddle - Charlie Daniels

Saxaphone - John Coltrane

Harmonica - John Popper (of Blue Traveler)

Tamborine - Me :)

While we're including other instruments/positions I'll just add Guy Forsyth who can handle at least 6 of them quite well, notably Sax, harmonica and the "Hand saw", whatever in the hell that is actually called I have no idea, but he plays it well.

great jack-off thread! i'd respond, but come on - i don't see how all you guys picked just one person at each instrument. i can't do it.

but i AM waiting for the first jackass who itemizes the members of his single favorite band: guitar - billy corgan; drums - jimmy chamberlin; bass - d'....well, you get the idea.

not a dig on that particular band, btw...just what came to mind.

My band is likely not the best collection of musicians, but I think this would be a fun band to see.

Drums - Eric Gaffney (sebadoh)

Singer - Wayne Coyne (flaming lips)

Guitar - Dean Ween (ween)

Bass - Nick Oliveri (qotsa)

Stoned guy dancing around on stage - Bev (Happy Mondays)

^ Ween, that's great. I was dusting off some old albums, moving music to my iPod, and was thinking that a few Ween songs might make the cut. I had fun listening to them again, but didn't end up moving any over except for the Irish drinking song ("AYE - aye - aye!").

hmmm... this is a tough one because i can't think of any 1 person for each instrument...

vocals: chris robinson (black crowes)

piano/keys: page mcconnell (phish)

organ: garth hudson (the band)

acoustic guitar: bill nershi (string cheese incident)

guitar: alvin lee (ten years after)

bass: phil lesh (grateful dead)

drums: keith moon (the who)

percussion: cyro baptista

they could switch out with a whole slew of others (wayne coyne on vocals is a great choice, trey anastasio or jerry garcia or al schnier or any combination on guitar, stewart copeland or victor delorenzo on drums, brian ritchie or paul mccartney or rob derhak on bass...).

for those of you who like primus... most of les claypool's other bands sound fairly similar to primus. i suggest checking them out.
