Vintage photo of North Carolina's first McDonald’s in Greensboro on Summit Ave. McDonald’s still sits on this location even though its been rebuilt several times.

I really like Greensboro.   I never went there until I moved to Chapel Hill.  It dramatically exceeded every expectation that I had.  Excluding Chapel Hill (which really isn't a city), it's my third favorite city in NC after Charlotte and Wilmington.    Its parks are beautiful, and its old buildings are stunning.  In fact, I think that it has the best old architecture of any city in NC.

I was in Greensboro today looking at a car.  I managed to snap some photos.   (I generally don’t snap photos when I’m with my family because they complain that I’m delaying them, but I was alone...)

Greensboro has some beautiful old buildings.  By the way, what’s planned for the empty lot across from Project Slugger?

This is what's planned there. 20 story office. Hotel. And apartments.

That looks fantastic.  Is it likely to rise, or is it just sitting in limbo and waiting for Godot?

The parking deck is well underway and the hotel is supposed to break ground this year for sure. Apartments are likely to start by the end of next year and office is just a maybe at this point.

The rendering provided is quite outdated. The hotel was an A-Loft at that time but will now be a taller (12 stories) and branded as an AC Hotel. The office building will be between 15-20 stories (unless something extraordinary happens I'd guess on the low end of this).

My understanding is that it will also have substantially less retail than is shown here, which is a bit disappointing.

So this project is actually getting built then and isn't sitting in some indefinite limbo.  That's awesome!

Chances are good that the hotel will be built. In fact, I think the chances are decent (50/50) that this project gets built with the mentioned components (hotel, apartments,  office building, and some limited retail).
