Perception of Charlotte Nationwide

That might be one the dumber articles I've read in a while... What outstanding reporting by CBJ  :dontknow:

Paul J. Gough, Pittsburgh Business Times is listed as the author. He was just jealous I guess.

Wait, an author from the PBJ wrote an article specifically about how Charlotte was ranked as an unhappy city, and then the CBJ was like "yeah, seems legit," and ran it?

Or are the various Business Journal sites just aggregators of anything that mentions _____________ city?

New list has Charlotte as the 4th most affordable city in the US. The other 4 in the top 5 are in Texas, including Austin at #1 (shocker :whistling: ), but still great for Charlotte!! Also, it has our unemployment at 4.1% did i miss something, or did we dramatically drop in that category?

Looking through the list of states with state income taxes vs sales tax.  I wonder where the tipping point is.  Would it be more viable for NC to drop state income tax and increase sales tax as tourism becomes more popular in the carolinas?  Or are we just not there yet.  Seems like it would be a net benefit for residents if we draw more money from people out of state.  At least as long as the balance was kept proper.

Not sure I'd call that a "shout-out"....The Metlife move was due to the lack of Class A office space in Uptown, not a shift in the "urban dynamic".

I realize that, I'm just saying that the previously dominant ideal of the suburban office park has contributed to the hesitancy of developers to build office towers without tenants lined up - thus creating this lack of speculative Class A office space downtown. I had more in the article originally about the rebirth of downtown, but my editor made me cut it  :ermm:

Couldn't decide if I wanted to post this here or revive an old Charleighborough thread in the NC Forum.

While technically the word "Charlotte" never actually appears in this article, there is a pretty startling fact within the "figures" that The Atlantic Cities has put together that actually favor the Charlotte region.

According to the article, if the metro area encompassing The Triangle, Triad, Charlotte, Greenville/Spartanburg, Atlanta, and Birmingham metros were its own country, its economic output (approx $1.149 Trillion) would actually rank within the top 15 countries in the world.

The article breaks down all of the major "mega regions" in North America. Some more familiar regions would be Bos-Wash, South Florida, SoCal, and Chi-Pitts (because what's in a name?)

While breaking down a description of "Char-lanta," the article actually never singles out "Charlotte" as one of the cities. Odd considering it is half of the namesake. Maybe the name is enough to point out Charlotte's presence/importance to the region.

I would like to point out though that the name "Charlotta," a contributor to the research, does appear in the article. Perhaps we were snubbed to avoid confusion...

Comparing the major regions in North America, Char-lanta would rank fourth in economic output (which apparently equates to more than the economy of South Korea,) and third in population, somehow leapfrogging SoCal in that respect.

Yes yes, this is largely the product of Atlanta's dominance in the South; but facts are facts and Charlotte is part of a much larger influence than I had originally perceived.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/03/19/15-reasons-why-charlotte-is-weird_n_4941553.html

I disagree with nearly everything on this list, except amelies.

Well, #1 is very odd, however who cares. #2 is so true, but not weird, a LOT of "new" cities are like that. Each one of these are so stupid. The person who wrote this must be from Tampa or something :dontknow:

Either way, the writer is obviously clueless and looking for clicks, which she got so i guess props.

It's great that she referred back to that Onion article in #15.

Her bio says that she attended Elon University, so it is especially disappointing that she did not know that the Bank of America 500 is not our biggest Nascar race.
