Perception of Charlotte Nationwide

Recommended Posts

But yes, to be very fair. The issue isn't with CIAA and its events. It's the rappers events that claim affiliation with the CIAA. I didn't realize there was a stabbing also. But yeah, these issues aren't the CIAAs fault. It's the people that come to town for the event only looking to party and look to Charlotte as a playground with no rules.

^Add sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression to non-discrimination, public accommodations, and vehicles for hire ordinances.

Yeah, I got that, I'm just not exactly sure what it would do differently than now, other than just have it on the books? I am not in an effected group so maybe I don't notice the problems now, but other than the transgender bathroom thing, I'm not sure what difference there would be.

^Because you don't throw your brethren under the bus.

What's that mean? I heard on npr she voted against because the bathroom clause was removed - in other words the ordinance had been gutted in her mind.

I was accosted on Tryon by one of these nuts, probably from out of town. I asked them to leave us alone and they kept at it. Annoying people.

Autry and Mayfield voted against the amended version because it would not allow transgender people to use restroom facilities consistent with their gender identity. While I admire their stance that transgender people should be fully protected through the ordinance, they have given the radical right a high profile and important victory by voting against an ordinance that would have nonetheless protected transgender people in housing, carriers, and other public accomodations. Moreover, sexual orientation would have become a protected class through the ordinance. Now, they have aided and abetted in giving the radical right a huge victory and made Charlotte look like a bigoted hicktown.

They're just reflecting the values of our state "bigoted hick-state".

Really? And didn't you go on and on ad nauseum about how you went through a long process before you moved to this bigoted hick-state? Why did you choose to live here?

If some of you think you are winning any hearts and minds by putting down those people who don't agree with your politics (or in some cases just your PC lip service), then you are kidding yourself. If you want to be taken seriously, and be heard, throwing a hissy fit is not the way to go about it.

It was meant to be a slam against the state legislature. I did expect the urban centers to be much more progressive and it seems many others do as well.

Note - I did not choose to live in NC. I had to move here and asked for help "ad-nauseum" on where to live in Charlotte.  Sorry that tried your patience. To those that helped, it was very helpful and I think we could not have picked the best possible place without your help.
