Doctors Hospital $55 million renovation

The three-story tower added to the front of the building will hold a 24-bed ICU and 24 private rooms, along with space for education and outpatient treatment. It is not adding any beds to the 354 the hospital is licensed to have, but it is converting them to better uses. Doctors Hospital has spent $16 million this year on new technology, Mr. George said.

Augusta really is the medical center of the southeast

Doctors Hospital isn't alone in its construction. University Hospital is in the midst of a $94 million renovation, Medical College of Georgia Hospital and Clinics is planning $110 million in projects in the next few years, and the school is planning a $124 million new building for the School of Dentistry that will likely be part of a larger medical education complex with new facilities for the School of Medicine.

More major construction in january for richmond county. And its not downtown.

Automatic Data Processing Inc. might have picked its permanent site. Down the street from T-Mobile's call center on the west side. At the intersection of Flowing Wells Road and Interstate Parkway. They have been operating out of a temporary office on Stevens Creek Road since July. The company will invest 40 million dollars in augusta

"(ADP) kept gravitating back to the Wheeler Road area, simply because they like the area," Mr. Sprouse said, citing the proximity to Interstate 20 and Bobby Jones Expressway.

Washington Road Sees Building Boom

The biggest -- a $20 million new Kroger and shopping center. The new Kroger employs about 250 people. "Aesthetically, it just looks great. Our visitors to the Masters are going to have a new experience coming in," said Mayor Deke Copenhaver.

He says it's just a part of a new boom on Augusta's busiest street. "The investment on Washington Road is a great thing to see, it's really improving the gateway to the city," said Copehnaver.

Kroger says it wouldn't have built its new store anywhere else. "It's not only the focal point of Augusta, it's one of the focal points of the United States with the Masters here," said Store Manager Christian Brander.

The Kroger is just one of several new developments on the portion of Washington Road. There's a new Walgreens under construction, and Somewhere In Augusta opened its new location Wednesday night.

I didn't even know about this project even being proposed. There were plans to build a 8 story marriot hotel in west augusta off interstate 520. The hotel would be located between marks church road and bobby jones/ 520. Marks church rd is the road that connects wheeler rd to wrightsboro rd augusta mall. Because of concerns from residents of the nearby neighborhood kingston. The developer went back and change the hotel to four stories. The project now has to be approved by the commission.

Here's the article

West Augusta Neighbors Delay Marriott From Moving In

People who live in a west Augusta neighborhood have delayed a four-story hotel from moving next door.

Curtis Baptist Church owns 11 acres along Marks Church Road and wants to sell the land to the Marriott Company.

Church leaders say the hotel would bring more than a million dollars in tax revenue to the county each year.

People who live in the Kingston subdivision protested the idea at Tuesday's Augusta-Richmond County Commission meeting. They say the hotel would create too much congestion and traffic. They also say they don't want the structure looming over their homes.

"It's going to jack traffic up. We get enough traffic going through here. We finally got speed bumps put up because people were racing through the neighborhood," said Jean Grover, resident.

Commissioners have asked the two parties to go back to the drawing board and work out a solution.

It's easier to find your way to downtown Augusta with the city's new way-finding signs, and there's more on the way.

Twenty-four "Welcome to Augusta" signs will be installed this summer to improve city corridors and gateways.

The new signs, at a cost of $143,000, are a continuation of the first phase of the project. They will be at nearly every major entry to the city.

There will be three phases of 334 permanent signs which are budgeted at $1.49 million, of which $143,000 was paid by the city. Grants and private-sector contributions will fund $220,400. The remaining $1.13 million has yet to be acquired.

Brighton Place, an 86-unit apartment complex under construction on Bergen Road in North Augusta, could be ready to accept tenants in two weeks.

There are more than 800 units on the drawing board or about to be under construction in Richmond County alone.

NEW APARTMENTS COMING

Blanchard & Calhoun Commercial Corp., 330 units on Walton Way Extension, Augusta, in planning

Flournoy Development, 312 units on Flowing Wells Road, Augusta, in planning

Brigham Properties, 168 units on Skinner Mill Road, Augusta, under construction

ATC Development Corp., 86 units on Bergen Road, North Augusta, under construction

64 units on Wrightsboro Road, Augusta, ground breaking next week

The Flournoy project on flowing wells is going to be right next to the new ADP building of I-20. I always wondered what that cleared land was by the sprint gas station. When driving I-20 west towards atlanta there is alot of cleared land.
