Disc Golf

I moved down here from Asheville last year, and loved playing disc golf. I saw this article -

I had no idea there were courses down here. After a little research, I have found courses at the following parks:

Timmons Park

Gower Estates Park

Holmes Park

Century Park

Any more parks locally, or any recommendations of what courses are better?

I don't know the name of the park over where Kids Planet is off of Brushy Creek Road, but there's a disc golf course there. I used to play at UCF and Valencia CC's Eastside Campus back in Orlando. I haven't played in years though. -_-

Hi vwsam,

I was glad to see your post, as I have enjoyed playing disc golf many times. I have not played in a few years, but when I lived in Greenville I enjoyed playing. It was a great way to get outside. I usually played the 18-hole course at Timmons Park, as it was laid out well and had a nice mix of throws required. I played a course at some park once (can't remember where - Simpsonville maybe?). It was mostly an open field with holes installed, and I recall a playground nearby. I also played the course in Easley once, but it was disappointing. I think it was right after they "opened" it, because many of the holes were stuck in the middle of the forest. I definitely did a thorough check for ticks after that round!

The most fun course, though (if you can call it that) is the "Thomas Green" course on the Clemson University campus (named after the founder, Thomas Green Clemson). There are obviously no disc catchers for holes like a traditional course, but it is fun because you can "tour" the campus while you play. One hole goes over the reflection pond. Another hole ends by hitting the Thomas Green Clemson statue with your disc. Perhaps I enjoy it so much because I am a Clemson alum, but it was a great change of pace. Plus, you get funny looks from people as they walk by! :-)

Here's a link to the Clemson course: http://people.clemson.edu/~jsimone/discgolf.htm

Enjoy.
