Rising Gas Prices

Recommended Posts

Even with that being true, I still do not think they are at fault for anything. Any company out their raises their prices to what the market will pay for their goods and services. So just because there happens to be high demand for their goods does not mean they are at fault for raising the price. These oil companies operate like any other company out their. If we were willing to pay 30 dollars for a pack of potato chips I'm sure that Lays would raise their prices too. Big companies provide all the amenities that you and I enjoy, and I think we should be very careful to damn them so readily just because we don't like the price they are charging. We should analyze ourselves more in why are we paying these prices if we feel they are so outrageous rather than resorting to some socialistic taxing of these extra profits. A company makes money; that's what they do. They are not a non-profit organization out their for the betterment of society. If you have a problem with them making heaps of money at your expense, then you have a problem with our whole capitalistic system.

Also anyone who voluntarily owns a truck or SUV has no right to complain about gas prices at all unless their truck is for occupational purposes. I for one hope these high gas prices force all these SUV and truck drivers to buy something with better mileage. I know that I'm still comfortable with prices with my 35 mpg car.

Another thing to consider. All the other companies on the Most Profitable Companies list are credit card, pharmaceutical and retail companies that people have a choice to buy from. People DON'T have a choice to buy gas. You must buy gas OR DIE and the oil companies know this. They're like the tobacco companies in a way, except the tobacco companies know you'll die if you buy their products. So, I guess that makes the oil companies the "good guys."

I like to use strong "figure of speech" wording in my posts. It should get the point across, but I think most people miss the subtle "figure of speech" part of it. Let's just say it would make living pretty darn hard without a car. I do know of a few people that live without a car, but they don't have kids.

It's still crazy just how big of a difference there is between NWA and the rest of the state in gas prices. Prices here at some stations are almost at the $3.50 mark and some areas of the state still have it as cheap as $2.85.

::waving wildly:: Hey, some of us truly need an SUV, and not for occupational purposes! We regularly haul 5 to 7 people around everywhere, so we must have seating for at least 7. Our options are a minivan or an SUV. We also live down a dirt road, and up and down several treacherous hills, over rugged terrain. Minivans won't last a year, it's tough to find one with 4WD, and even if you do, they can't be fitted with the super heavy duty tires needed to survive our roads.

A well-informed prediction (not by me of course!): Gas prices in NWA will probably reach $4.01 per gallon by mid-June and should peak at about $5.10 per gallon by mid-August. Boy won't everyone be relieved in September/October when gas prices come back down to around $3.49 per gallon where it will remain until next years gas price hike?

Here's the latest outbreak maps from the NWA War Room:

At least we are now out of the yellow range, but the light green has gone up by 2 cents in the last 16 hours. It's absolutely amazing how NWA gas prices are higher than New England states and is even cheaper in New York City, a city with about 100,000 times more cars as NWA.

More breaking news to come.
