Highway 98 Bristles With Development

Development continues at a rapid pace on Highway 98. A housing development, apartments, retail and a car dealership are all planned or under construction for this area. I'd rather see a focus on the downtown area, but I suppose it's good to see the pace of development pick up in Hattiesburg.

Sprawl Sprawl Sprawl. Lamar County is getting all the love, Forest County getting the scraps.

Sprawl is definitely something the leaders of both counties should take a long look at before the pace of development paves both counties over with strip-malls and apartments. Both can be useful, but not carpeted over the landscape. I'd also be happier to see the proposed new development (office building, apartments, hotel) built in downtown Hattiesburg. There are signs that the downtown area is coming back already, but a major development downtown would clinch the idea.
