10,000 new jobs coming to BAFB/Bossier City?

Please, someone tell me if I'm reading this correctly. It appears, to me at least, that the Cyber Command expansion at Barksdale Air Force Base in Bossier is to create a business park and create 10,000 jobs.

If I read it correctly, then given the types of jobs these would be, they would likely be partially military and partially civilian. Obviously a business park related to Cyber Command would be well protected and would likely be built 100% on the base.

In that article you has spoken about and Stephen posted the link to, it talked about the Cyber Command Center. I think that most of the anticipated jobs are to be added by outside companies according to that article. I'm going to post two parts of that article about the Cyber Command Center. They may clear up what Bossier is talking about.

Even expanding existing businesses by thousands of jobs is an awesome addition. I'm very excited about this.

if it were to be like the RED STONE ARSENAL in HUNTSVILLE.. it would be HUGE! for the local economy!

Well, this is Bossier... though it does help the entire area... but Shreveport still needs all the help it can get. Hopeefully some of this job creation will be on their side of the river as well. Shreveport did recently land a steel mill, though, and there's another one that's been looking at the city for a while.

I kinda had that view for awhile, but I've shifted my thought process on Bossier and Shreveport competing with each other (in regards to economic and residential development). I used to get jealous if Bossier got something, e.g. the Centurytel Center, but now, i think of Shreveport-Bossier as a community... two parts that make one whole... Progress on both sides of the river should be viewed as positives... synergy, if you will.

Nice article. I like how they are relating it to the boom taking place in Huntsville, AL, and I have to agree. I also often tell people that this will be to Bossier City and Shreveport what Dell is to Austin. Seriously, this is a technology project on a grand scale and can completely transform the job market and the buying power of this entire region.

Now... let's just get them signed on the dotted line and push forward with this project.

It's either the top 2 or top 3, I apologize but I don't remember exactly. But they already have the base structure for this at Barksdale, so it's the most fitting location. Otherwise what they already have they would have to uproot and move. This, combined with the $50 million that Bossier City is offering and the $50 million Louisiana is likely to offer, should seal the deal... or so one would think. For Bossier City to put up $50 million is a HUGE deal. That's roughly the amount of money they spent on CenturyTel Center, and the city does NOT throw that kind of money around for no reason. Most cities Bossier's size don't have the resources to put up that kind of capital. Neither Texarkana, nor Monroe, or even Alexandria could put up that kind of money. Bossier City is fortunate to have a successful casino industry funding the city's coffers.

You're right. Bossier City is fortunate to have those resources and they know the city will change forever with the Cyberspace Command Center. I feel confidant it will happen!!

As yall said, potential impact for SBC on the scale of what Huntsville AL has observed.

The decsion for the site should be made later this month. Not only would the command center bring in highly trained personnel, but also high-tech defense contractors would also likely be attracted.

If it's an information technology HQ of some sort, I don't think that would be the case, at least in the long run. Most of the jobs would be white collar.

Agreed. The construction work is for a sophisticated cyber command center on an air force base. I'm sure the government will elicit bid proposals from reputable and high-level construction companies (at least you'd think so). I don't expect very many low-end Hispanic workers will be involved.

Naturally. I saw this coming long before the article and you probably did as well. Anytime something this big comes out, other military areas are going to try to get in on it.

The biggest benefits to locating it here, though, would be the $50 million each from the city and the state, as well as the fact that the base for this operation is already located here.

The Nebraska site does sound like a good fit as well, but I truly believe (and hope) that what this area is offering will be enough to help them decide locate it here. This is a huge deal, no doubt others will want in on it. But since we were the first area to jump on it and have thus far shown how badly we want it, I believe the odds are stacked in our favor.

This will definitely be something to watch closely.
