Old Cloverdale Neighborhood

Old Cloverdale is one of Montgomery's earliest suburbs and is the oldest landscape garden designed residential area in Alabama.

A couple of master plans were developed recently for the two business districts in the neighborhood.

The Cloverdale Five Points Master Plan (Fairview Avenue and Woodley Road), based on a 2005 charrette, is available
.

The Cloverdale Village Business District Master Plan (Cloverdale Road and Norman Bridge Road), based on a 2006 charrette, is available
. This was Montgomery's first suburban commercial area when established in the 1910s.

Thanks to Chad Emerson for hosting these plans.

The Atlantic & Pacific Lofts, a mixed-use project on the site of a former A&P grocery in Old Cloverdale (Cloverdale Village business district), is nearing completion. A restaurant is already open in one of the buildings.

McAlpine Tankersley Architecture designed the lofts and will move their offices there this summer. The buildings have commercial space on the ground floor with residential lofts upstairs. Lofts are selling for $225,000 - 500,000.

McAlpine Tankersley is also working with the developers, City Loft Corp., on an upcoming mixed-use project at the old Cloverdale school.

City Loft Corp., developers of the Atlantic & Pacific Lofts, plan to build a mixed-use project at the site of the old Cloverdale School (now part of Huntington College) on Fairview Ave. The project is supposed to include retail buildings on Fairview in front of the school, on each side. The school entrance in the middle is to remain visible from Fairview. The development will continue along Boultier to Navarre, with residential on Navarre as well I believe. The west wing of the school may be demolished. I'm not sure if the ground floor along Boultier will contain retail/restaurants as well.

This is what the area looked like in May 2007:

The Montgomery YMCA's newest extension facility is scheduled to open this month at A&P Lofts in Cloverdale. The small Y's Up facility at the A&P Lofts -- about 1,000 sq ft -- will have cardio equipment, weight equipment and an area for free weights.

Two Cloverdale developments by City Loft Corporation were recently featured in national magazines. The July issue of House Beautiful features the interior of an Agnew Street Cottage, near the fire station across from Huntingdon College. The Atlantic & Pacific Development got more press in a recent issue of Professional Builder.
