Oh, ugh, yes. Don't get me started on the footage of steel mills during sporting events. It must be stock footage that they dig up, because otherwise they'd have to put in a lot of effort to get it. Don't they notice when they show up that there are no mills in sight?

Sports - the city is partially to blame as it should be providing talking points to the announcers and provide areas for the networks to promote.

TV DMA - are not the same as metro populations or even merely expanded metros. Population is NOT the main reason for definition. Location is and proximity to other TV markets.

If your city borders another DMA nearby, then your TV market stops there (in that direction at least).

If you are the biggest city in a small state (population wise - small markets aside from one bigger one) then your DMA may cover most of the state.

Denver, Salt Lake City, Twin Cities all cover vast areas - some like SLC cover the entire state.

Baltimore is a bigger metro than Denver, but has a DMA roughly the same size. Philly is a lot bigger of a metro than most cities, but it's DMA is not particularly huge in area... roughly the same area as Pittsburgh.

So in a sense if Frasier worked in the Twin Cities and Denver (and of couse LA) then yes he would be in a smaller market in Pittsburgh.

No Steubenville is not included. Actually for TV, it's Wheeling-Steubenville, but radio Steubenville and Wheeling are their own markets. That market included a NBC affiliate in Steubenville and CBS one in Wheeling.

To the NW, Youngstown is a DMA

East - Johnstown-Altoona is a DMA

and Erie to the North

Pgh's DMA does include 3 WV counties that border Fayette (esentially Morgantown area) and the county that borders the eastern of the 3 WV counties is a DC DMA station....
