Hey folks,

i had lunch with Mark last week and we discussed some mini meets for some of you that are interested and for those that can't make the regular meets, like Chris Holman.

You all are welcome to try and set these up anytime and do not need permission from us to do it.

If you want to do a lunch meet or a pub crawl, or a specific neighborhood, just get together and get ur done.

just coordinate on here and see who can come.

Our next monthly Meet-Up will be this Saturday, Sept. 3rd at 10 AM in the Provence Bakery within the Downtown Library (at corner of Church and 6th Avenue). I will have an agenda of discussion topics posted here later in the week.  We've been averaging 12-15 people the past four months, with lively conversation and camaraderie between those of us who love to interact about the development of our fair city. More are always welcome!  : )

August turned out to be yet another very busy month of development news here in the the Music City, so we will have many topics to consider when we get together for our monthly Urban Planet Nashville Meet-Up this Saturday, Sept. 3rd at 10 AM at the Provence Bakery in the Downtown Library.  We will open with brief reports anyone might have on recent travels to other cities, with comments on the development they observed there.  Then we can jump into these items...

- Hyatt Regency Hotel (540 rooms, 60,000 ft. of meeting space, several restaurants, anywhere from 20-32 stories) announced by Southwest Value Partners as the first phase of the massive LifeWay Campus redevelopment. Located on lot where LifeWay Bookstore was formerly situated at NW corner of Broadway and 10th Avenue, directly across from Union Station.

- Bridgestone Arena land development proposals (18-30 story tower, restaurants/retail, ice rink, theater, etc.).

- Drury Inn rendering and more detail for 21-story, 390-room, 312 space parking.  At NW corner of KVB and 3rd Avenue South.

- Second Avenue Partners revised designs for dual 40-story condo/apt. towers, plus 17-story hotel to accommodate slight change in footprint due to .12-acre sliver of land contention with current owner.

- The Tennessean putting it's 10-acre campus up for sale at NE corner of Broadway and 12th Avenue.  Potential for substantial project involving reveal large structures.

- New rendering (or is it just an old, previously unseen?) for 14-story Virgin Hotel at western edge of point intersection of Demonbreun, 17th Avenue South, and Division.

- How Hensler/Eakin partnership won the MDHA Trolley Barn lots bid (20-story residential, 6-story office, and four or more 4-story retail buildings).

- Possible MajorLeague Soccer (MLS) franchise for Nashville and the required soccer-specific stadium.  Where would it be built? How funded?

- State Fairgrounds new four-phase upgrade by Metro.

- Stanza Hotel (13 stories, 110 rooms) at junction of Lafayette, 4th Ave. South, and Ash has new rendering and a bit more info. Originally the moniker was The One Nashville.

- Monroe Investment Group out of Chicago adds more land to their massive plot in the Cowan Street Corridor on NE quadrant of inner belt. Now up to 105 acres. What is bet use and design of that land?

-Comfort Suites (11-stories, 126 rooms, $21 million) announced for 1/2 block north of Church on 14th Avenue facing I-40/65 to the east.  Additional, slightly smaller hotel will also be built by same developers immediately behind facing 15th Avenue. No rendering on the second.

- Metro Government officially recommends the $6 billion transit plan for the region which includes high increase in buses and routes, plus some light rail, and commuter rail expansion.

- Condos or offices planned for remodel of 1865-era, 4-story brick former tobacco warehouse a few blocks north of Charlotte on 21st Avenue North.

- Midtown Hotel Partners announce12-story, 200-room structure for SW corner of 29th Ave. North and Poston, just a block north of West End Avenue, and two blocks west of Centennial Park.

- 3 more upscale honky-tonk bars with rooftop scenarios announced for old structures along lower Broadway.

- 90-day-hold ordered before demolition of 1929-era 3-story brick building at 1815 Division Street.  Can it be saved for historic and redevelopment uses? One-time home of Warner Bros. Music, and originally build as the Crittenton Home for Unwed Mothers.

- If there's time I can regale you with the jury-duty tale I just completed where we had to decide the value of a piece of land that ended-up in the Music City Center footprint retro-actively to 2010.  Learned some neat things about downtown appraisals, codes, MDHA, and the particular developer/land-owner involved.

And, believe it or not, there is MORE that could be discussed as well.  We'll see how we do getting through these.  : )

All are welcome to join-in!

Good group of ten of us for the Nashville Urban Planet Meet-Up this morning.  Pretty good considering the holiday weekend, college football kick-off, and beautiful weather.  So good to see Rookzie amongst us and contributing his sage wisdom for the first time in a long time.  : )

Our next meeting will be Sat. Oct. 1 10 AM to Noon at Provence Bakery in Downtown Library.  And...Nov. 5th will be the 11th anniversary of our first meeting!
