Normandale Mall Redevelopment

Any chance of Normandale redevelopment? Almost a museum in itself and would be an interesting case for a kind of retromall for Cloverdale/Idlewyld area. Maybe make it a festival style for the south side as it once had 2-3 larger stores as well as accompanying retail when Eastbrook was the new upstart in the sixties.

I found a WSFA-TV story from 2005 about the renovation proposal. The new owner planned to fill the vacant stores, build 64 townhouses along the back parking lot, add a new strip mall and a drive-in restaurant behind Compass Bank. I guess his plans fell through or are on hold, though, because nothing seems to have happened since then.

Joseph G. Arnone, a Kansas City, Mo. developer, has plans to revitalize Normandale Mall and hopes to start work in October if he can get financing. He says he has tenants lined up, including a grocery store. Apparently this is his second attempt -- the first one failed earlier this year because of a lack of financing.
