I'm not entirely sure what the future holds for Atlanta. We'll be able to tell what the city's long term future is based upon the decisions we make in the next few years (Will we continue attempt to make our projects more urban? Will we continue to try and attract business and tourism? Will we build the Beltline?).

I'd like to see a few more super talls, or even just regular skyscrapers.

However, we're not going to be rivalling NYC any time soon.

Also, I think this might be more appropriate in the regular Atlanta forum. :)

Regarding developing a massive urban core - all cities that matured in the early 1900's are & will be ahead of the game. It is hard imagining redeveloping Old 4th Ward, Grant Park or Virginia Highlands into anything else than the inner-ring suburban neighborhoods they are. That is Atlanta's edge over northeastern / midwestern cities but will mean the urban core will require greater densification but the city still may be behind other cities in terms of size.
