Some changes for Constellation, the mixed use project downtown. One of the hotels will be a Residence Inn instead of Courtyard . Also up to 160 apartments will be added to the 80-100 condo units. Not a surprise really since the project is evolving. Construction has begun on th interior street, Constellation Dr. and the hotels are expected to be going up by August both

the SpringHill Suites and Residence Inn. Interesting numbers maybe; 160

apartments= 16 floors, :whistling:

maybe after tonights meeting things can start moving..

Council members have expressed an interest in setting a maximum 16-story height limit or none. The council could vote on the question tonight.

The issue has stirred a sharp divide between developers who oppose an overall height restriction and downtown neighborhood and historic interests who don't want tall buildings overshadowing their property.

City Council President Glenn Watson said Wednesday a 16-story limit seems like a reasonable compromise.

"If we voted for 10, we would be, in essence, stopping the Constellation development," Watson said.

Watson said Constellation developer Scott McLain and his business partner want to construct at least a 15-story building as part of the retail/twin-hotel/residential complex proposed for the former Market Square Mall site at Clinton Avenue and Memorial Parkway.

Developer Scott McLain says the first hotel to be built at his Constellation mixed-use project downtown will break ground Wednesday.

The Spring Hill Suites will have 130 rooms and be six stories tall, as will the Marriott Courtyard, which should begin construction within the next couple of months, McLain said. Soon after that, McLain said, he expects to begin construction on condominiums, and announce some retail tenants.

It now seems the little sign for the hotel is now gone, wonder if this project is dying despite what is said publically?

I'm sure the current economy is killing projects like this, not because they are bad or not needed but companies/banks

just won't lay out the cash. Then again maybe some positive changes are being made to the design now that the new mayor is in office.
