Sent to the Rapid Wheelmen bicycle club:

"What could the Grand Rapids area do with $50 million in non-motorized transportation funding?

In 2005, federal transportation legislation (SAFETEA-LU) provided 4 communities with $25 million each to demonstrate how targeted investment in nonmotorized facilities can shift trips from vehicles to human powered modes such as bicycling and walking. In an attempt to capitalize on the successes of that first effort, the Rails-to-Trails Conservancy (RTC) is looking to build on the pilot program for the next federal transportation legislation (which could be in place as early as 2010).
