QE2 to Become Luxury Floating Hotel in Dubai

Cunard's Queen Elizabeth 2 Will Be Permanently Berthed in Dubai

In a bittersweet final chapter for the storied ocean liner, the Queen Elizabeth 2 wil be permanently berthed at Palm Jumeirah as a floating hotel and museum. Though I haven't sailed on QE2, my grandparents used to go back and forth to England with her. This comes as no great surprise, as I'd long thought that the Carnival Corporation would have little use for the ship as soon as the Queen Victoria enters service at the end of this year. This final chapter in her life is better than I might have expected (she could have ended up in the breaker yards in India- a fate far worse indeed suffered by the France/Norway). I have sailed on the new Queen Mary, which is a grand ship, but more of a hybrid than a true liner. The QE2 was the last of her breed.

The Guardian- U.K.

I can't say that I'm completly happy with it going to Dubai since it has no history there whatsoever, but at least it will have a good home. Seems like everything is going to Dubai these days.
