This is great, and fits in perfectly with Mayor Bernero's goal to reduce Lansing emissions by a significant portion over the coming years. Personally, I think he should set an even more ambitious goal than 10% reduction. It's also great that this company has local connections and is tentively looking at Lansing for a plant.

Deal aims to boost mileage of city's vehicles

A city environmental effort could end up growing new jobs in Lansing.

Mayor Virg Bernero said Monday the city will begin using bio-based lubricants from California's NRG Resources Inc. in the city's vehicle fleet - from police cars to fire engines to public works' orange pickups.

The products, made from food-grade, plant-based oils, should help the city boost fuel efficiency and reduce greenhouse gas emissions, city and company officials said.
