"Why can't we be more like Grand Rapids?" - The Patriot Ledger - Boston

58 posts in this topic

If you love Grand Rapids, be prepared to feel a heck of a lot of pride:

Commentary from America's Heartland - "Why can't we be more like Grand Rapids?"

Too many interesting tidbits to list about a Boston writer's first visit to Grand Rapids, and her impressions.

Thank you JoAnn Fitzpatrick (and thanks user InSecurity for the link  ).

Probably didn't hurt that we've had excellent weather recently as well. However, a very nice article and a good read. Three cheers and a beer to GR!

I'm in love with this lady...the city should name something after her. How about we change Rosa Parks Circle to Joann Fitzpatrick Park Circle ( Did Rosa even visit GR...?) I'm joking of course, but I wish there was something we could do....

Nice article, but why do all reporters insist Ford's library is here?

What a nice article, it's nice to know we are doing something right here.

Grand Rapids might be doing a lot right and we just don't know it. But when you're concentrating so hard on making improvements, you tend to overlook the progress that's been made.

Vandertown, I'm going to send this link to the City. If it were me, I'd send her a thank you basket with an invitation to come back for a free weekend to visit the sights (if she didn't get to see a lot while she was here).

America's Heartland?

Good article though, how did you happen upon it?

Very cool! Doesn't even sound like she came here knowing she'd be writing a story about us. I know the CVB occasionally carts boatloads of travel journalists around GR and the Lakeshore - she wasn't one of those. We all inspired her! YAY!

I wonder if she bought anything downtown?! :whistling:

Just this morning I received this article as it was sent around our office.

Everyone here is very proud. I've got a meeting at city hall this afternoon and will make sure they know about it!

An awesome article. And so true! :) Good to see our fine city getting some press.

The provincialism does seep through, doesn't it. I guess it is 'nice' to be perceived as 'cleanly'.

We should all chip in and send her a lovely gift basket full of fine soaps and aromatic bath oils...

Maybe I'll print off a few copies of her article and leave them around at places in town.

This one is making the rounds with many of the top ballers in town. I'm sure it's especially pleasing for the guys who have invested decades/millions of dollars in Downtown!
