Michelin on Main

It is indeed a very awesome attraction for visitors and something we residents can be very proud to claim. I love the seat-belts. Very clever! Several pieces of merchandise have unique designs combining Michelin with SC. This will certainly be a great place to purchase gift items for friends and family.

May be down but not out . Michelin has reapplied to the DPC to raise the Michelin man.Not sure what they changed the application looks the same?

I would love to see Mr. Bib outside the store somewhere. I wouldn't mind seeing him standing outside the door, or on the street corner. Overhead would be fine as well. He is a global icon afterall.

I found out today why they put that case at the top of the stairs. A construction worker dropped something and broke the floor so they covered it up with the display case.

I dont nkow if someone messed up or what but Mr.Bib was hung outside of the building as origionally propossed today when I drove by. I kinda did a double take to make sure I wasn't seeing things.

What is "unique" about it? While the store may be unique, Bib looks pretty much like the same guy they hang outside of tire stores.

I agree...the store is unique and I've been in once but I can't think of a reason that I would ever go back. I guess unique is not always a good thing. And for this the city lost The Grape...

I'd personally rather see him (or someone dressed up like him, that is) walking around Townes Square/Plaza or along riverwalk or in Falls Park or along South Main ... rather than hanging from the side of the building, but that's just me.

I don't really have a problem with it either. Sometimes tacky is good. Tacky is memorable. If anything, it could have benefitted from being a bit larger and more noticeable. I guess the only drawback is that the area is getting cluttered. It seems that every amenity or pseudo-amentity wants to be located right at Falls Park, which makes sense to a certain extent, but eventually, the focus of downtown needs to broaden. Almost any function held downtown is at the expense of using (and abusing) Falls Park. I imagine that at its current location, it won't make that much of an impression, due to all the other things going on.

I thought the DPC voted against this at their last meeting. (or maybe they've met again since then; my life has been kind of a blur with work the last few weeks) Anyone know?

Yup. FWIW, I don't like it at all. I would much rather see a shingle (?) sign.
