Combined population would be 60-70,000. Both sides of Texarkana have over 30,000 residents, split almost equally.

Though there is always the "Texas vs. Arkansas" debates, the Texarkanas are already viewed as just simply "Texarkana," one city in two states. Sure, why not make it official? Then you don't have a poverty-stricken city attached to a prospering city, you have one city and the same focus can be put on both sides. This would definitely make one side pay more attention to the other.

I think it's a great idea, but it's going to take a long time and cost a lot of money to get all the services pulled together. In the end it will definitely be worth it.
