Anderson Independent-Mail (29 June 2007): East Greenville Street may be transisting into Anderson's "restuarant row."

Thai Spice recently opened in the former Pita Way/Phoenix Grill building.

DaVinci's, an Italian restaurant, is opening in the late Weets Good Eats. It may be open late August/early September.

It is nice to see several nicer dining options opening along this route. The immediate area is upscale, growing, and seems to be a nice fit to to lure higher end restaurants.

I thought the same thing till i read the article closely. They are talking about the area around Fant Street which is just on the outer ring of downtown. It's a weird location really. Lots of restaurants have tried their luck there and failed. I hope these do better.

The locations are great. It is the need to bring better quality, longer mainstays to the immediate area. Landing a well-known restaurant is what downtown needs.

Thai Spice is OK, but it isn't really upscale. It isn't really an upscale location, imo (the building was originally a Churches Chicken, fwiw).

There's a Mexican place on Fant Street, a bit north of the Hospital that's pretty good, if you order off the "authentic" portion of the menu.

The most under-rated restaurant in downtown Anderson is probably Do Dah Day on Main Street, basically across from the Calhoun. The food is really good, and healthy too. They have things like Grilled Salmon Steak Salad. The service is a little off.

I suspect the reason behind the failures has something to do the rents that landlords are charging.

Ha! Funny you mentioned about Doo Da Day Cafe in Anderson. I ate there not too long ago and the service was horrible. Ive been meaning to try Thai Spice but havent had the time. Maybe Ill go this week. I miss that little Thai place in Clemson that burned down last year. It was the only local Thai place in the Anderson/Clemson area until now.

It is not a new restaurant, but it is a new place for me wanting pizza - Pizza Buffet. Their quality is much better and delicious.

I wanted to try Kenny's on Clemson Boulevard, but they have since folded.

Anderson Independent-Mail: Fresh Choice Market and Deli will be opening up on North Main Street in the former Duke's Sandwich in Sullivan Square, previously a former car dealership.

Fresh deli meats are good, so I will try this place out.

Same here. Will be a great place for lunch. I finally got over to Thai Spice and have decided its one of my favorite restaurants in Anderson now.

Friends - the downtown establishment that closed last year is going to re-open, sort of, as Friends at Stone Creek Cove on the Lake. This is great news. Friends was one of the genuinely great restaurants. The owners just got tired of running the restuarant. At Stone Creek Cove, they'll only be open Thur - Sat.

Anderson Independent-Mail: Waffle House is opening a new location at US-178 and I-85. Not many eateries are here yet, but it can catalyst a movement.
