Thanks for the head's up Drew  No doubt that property is in a prime location! I have always liked the old retro Coca Cola sign!

This project was mentioned just a few weeks ago in Business Report; here's what they had to say.... it is supposed to be a Live music venue.

Project: A 1,200- to 1,500-seat club at Florida and Third streets that would bring in regional and national musical acts.

Status: Developer Todd Chambers says he

Hey Drew, not the best pic from BusinessReport, I guess this answers our question from a while back. With wooden pilings drivin deep into the ground so close to I-12 this development looked like it had some potential. But it looks disapointing and probably will end up looking like the hundreds of other small single-story developments around BR?? I guess being set on a platform so it won't bother existing drainage is what set's it apart?? I haven't seen anything like this.

*Real Estate Weekly's Property of the Week.

A 10,000 square foot office building is under construction at the end of Brentwood Drive. The building, set to open in November, will be the home for Fusion Architecture and the Safety Alert Network. The building is being built on a platform, so it won't disturb the existing drainage. Fusion is the architects and Charles Carter is the contractor.

It looks like CitiPlace Blvd. is being extended north of Corporate Blvd?? Bulldozers were carving a wide path through the brush; and another possible new street could be added just a little further down on the east before the Ward's Creek bridge?? This area is ripe for some nice development :shades:

I saw that also, and I'm curious to see what they are up to.

So I dont believe we are getting a new road at Citiplace. It noticed on my way to work this afternoon that it looks like they are using it as a dumping ground for hurricane debris.

Interesting. I saw the opening in the tree's and also wondered what was going on back in there.

Is it safe to assume most of what is being picked up will be used for mulch? They should allow residents to make use of it in our flower beds and around the remaining trees.

At the Airline Hwy/Bluebonnet intersection the 50,000 sq ft retail center looks to be nearly complete. Maybe qualify as a fancy "L" shape strip shopping center; anyway definetly looks better than that old Plantation Inn motel that was there! No word of the new tenants??

A little futher south down Airline the new 2-story 30,000 sq ft Louisiana Culinary Institute is coming along.

Thanks for posting about this! I went to Notoco a week ago and was surprised to see the shopping center nearly complete. I think the new Party Time is going up behind this shopping center???

That's great about the hospital. When they first said they were going to do that huge project I didn't believe, but AI guess I was wrong. :D

To bad about the Carmax. Oh well, they will soon realize there is no economic crisis here and be building that thing in no time!

Hey ya'll. Something exciting happened that I didn't realize was exciting until today. That AT&T store will the frist national-affiliated, non-retail establishment in downtown in a long time and on top of that it's on 3rd street. Downtown B.R. is coming back to life! :D:D

Well, an AT&T store takes some amount of foot traffic.

Downtown Baton Rouge must be at the next level.

Oh no! I'm trying to stay hopeful, but this isn't good. A book store is like a mini-anchor. I want to be pessimistic, but I don't think Cortana is in for too good of a future.

There might be some hope though. When another one of Cortana's owner's malls turned ghetto the knocked the mall part down and built a lifestyle center around the anchors. Of course, that was a mall in the home city that the company originated from.

"Waldenbooks closing in Mall at Cortana

The Waldenbooks store in the Mall at Cortana is set to close Saturday. A spokeswoman for Borders Group, which owns the Waldenbooks chain, says the closing is part of a companywide initiative that's been going on since March 2007. That Borders opened a Mall of Louisiana store in August probably was another factor in the closing, company officials say."

Yeah, to see a mini-anchor like a book store close isn't good. We can only hope Cortana can stay afloat during all of this mess. The emerging Towne Center at Cedar Lodge did not make things any easier.

IMO to be a sucessful regional draw like Mall at Cortana used to be(still is?) is having a cinema; Book store; nice restuarants and hotels nearby. I like the idea of an life-style type open-air center; at least have more natural lighting coming from the roof tops to give it an open air feel.

^That's what I was thinking. If they knocked out the ceiling and put in somemore skylights and maybe changed the tile then that could help. I recently went to the Esplanade Mall in Kenner and it was a example of what a good mall in a normal area could be. But then again it is smaller has two stories, which I think makes people think a place is bigger(which = better).

I just thought of something. This closing of underperforming stores might be worse than this. Remember how Circuit City and Linens'n'Things closed underperforming then a few months later they all had to be closed. That would be really bad becasue then the new Boulevard booksttore would close and considering that the other two major bookstores are only a few miles away, it would stay closed.
