No prob. :)

*They're building something on Florida around Fountainbleau/Gloria Dr.

*A house is going up along Goodwood near Flannery, probably one of the last free lots in Sherwood Forest

*I don't know if its been posted but the Broadmoor shopping center is being gutted out

*The Cortana Petsmart and Lowes repainted their facades, I guess to say we're not going anywhere for a while, lol

Penthouse Club opening in B.R.

General Media Communications, publisher of Penthouse magazine, announced today it's turning The Gold Club Cabaret into The Penthouse Club Baton Rouge, with a grand opening slated for Friday. The Bennington Avenue club will be "entirely remodeled," according to a release by the company. Ownership and management will be shared by the licensee of The Penthouse Club New Orleans, which is located on Bourbon Street. "This city has a very welcoming and comfortable atmosphere, which is what guests will experience," says Jeff Stoller, director of Global Club Licensing for the Penthouse brand. "The club is a perfect blend of sophistication and southern Louisiana hospitality."

Agency rezones midcity site

The city-parish Planning Commission on Monday unanimously approved the rezoning of two midcity plots on opposite sides of North 19th Street as an in-fill small planned unit development. The site will become the home of 32 town homes and an outdoor pavilion to be built by New Orleans-based affordable-housing developer Gulf Coast Housing Partnership.

The town homes would be on North 19th Street between North and Gayosa streets. The pavilion area would be on a smaller parcel across North 19th at the corner of Gayosa and would be open to the public.

The development is expected to be completed by summer 2013.

Other items discussed during the meeting included:

UNIVERSITY VILLAS: The commission approved a revision to the concept plan for University Villas, on the north side of Burbank Drive just south of South Kenilworth Parkway.

That revision added 36 acres to the 17-acre University Villas development previously approved by the commission, increasing the number of filings from two to five.

The plan, if amended, would mean 242 lots on 53 acres. University Villas would have 16 acres of open space, about 30 percent of the development.

THE COTTAGES: The commission also unanimously approved a revision of the final development plan for Birmingham, Ala.-based Capstone Development’s The Cottages of Baton Rouge, located south of Ben Hur Drive between Burbank and Nicholson drives.

Capstone will add a 24-acre phase that would include 75 buildings totaling 141 medium-density residential units.

This phase would be just to the east of the existing 380 units. The entire development is 83 acres.

MARCELLO’S: Marcello’s Wine Warehouse at Perkins Road and Balis Drive received CAB1 zoning approval to add a deli counter where wine and beer will be served.

Owner Gene Todaro said the conversion of part of the existing store will be completed in about three months.

JAMESTOWN: A revision requested by developer Jairo Alvarez to increase the number of single-family lots on nine acres at Jamestown at Old Perkins was deferred.

I really think they should open a chain restaurant there. I know we have a lot of great local eateries but I really think a chain would have some good drawing power, especially with younger people.

It's back to the drawing board for building at Third and Florida

Plans for a club to open in a prominent downtown building at the corner of Third and Florida streets—atop which is the iconic Coca-Cola neon sign—are officially dead, and the building is once again being marketed for lease or sale. "The reason it's been vacant so long is that it's actually been leased for the past five years, but there's been no improvements made by the tenant," says Ben Taylor, owner of B.B. Taylor III Realtors and the representing agent for the property. The two-story, approximately 11,000-square-foot building is being marketed for $1.25 million, Taylor says. The zoning allows for pretty much any commercial use, he says, and most inquiries have come from those interested in opening a bar/nightclub, restaurant, pharmacy or grocery store. "I've been getting about one or two calls a week on it," Taylor says. "We've had interest from both national drugstores and national restaurants." In March of last year, plans for a club with a rooftop deck were announced, with an anticipated opening date by the start of 2012. Through the years, the building has been home to several clubs. Given its prominent corner location, Taylor says he's optimistic about the building's prospects of being sold or leased and put into use. "It's what's known as a 100% corner; it has the highest traffic volume in the downtown area," he says.

Another bank branch for Corporate Blvd...wonder if the 4-story Lofts at CitiPlace will ever get off the ground next to it??

AR-121009969.jpg

Cottonport Bank's first Baton Rouge branch is shaping up at 6500 Corporate Blvd. It will be the 12th branch overall for the Avoyelles Parish-based bank, which bought the land in front of the The Gates at CitiPlace last summer for about $781,000. Cottonport broke ground on the project in May. Cangelosi Ward is the general contractor.

Welcome back Steve3n8...thanks for the info

I think all2neat is for real...the northern half of Jones Creek Rd is sweet with the medians(they need to ask the Palm tree co... to sell a few palm trees for the median)...100% improvement from the old narrow 2-lane; deep-ditch on both sides; 60's rural road! Now they could almost name that stretch a parkway instead of a road!

Old Hammond Hwy's unfinished stretch was a state road...so part of the Green Light Plan(Phase 3/4) put on the back burner

They now have large piece of equipment on empty lot on north side Old Hammond Hwy near Sharp/Cedarcrest/No.Harrel's Ferry Rd across from Race-trac/Shopping Center...it will be interesting to see what happens...there are a few empty/undeveloped spaces in the vicinity.

Widening of Jones Creek between Coursey and South Harrels was a Greenlight project, the section between Coursey and Tiger Bend is a state project... Just goes to show you how well the green light program has worked.

Budget crisis....but it doesn't help when New Orleans eats up most of the state's transportation budget.
